So went did LEgoland a few weeks ago for the first time.

We are DL vet's but opted to do something a bit different..it was a last minute trip.

We stayed at GREAT hotel that is on the Legoland website. It had the BEST KID POOL/PLAY area!!!!!!!!!!!

My sons are 10 and 7.

TO be very honest, Legoland was just OK for them. Parts were fun...but overall the lines were really long and it felt a bit more like a place for littler kids. Which is odd, because what 4yo kid wants to wait in a line for 45 mins..
:rotfl2:

Did we have fun? Sure. Would we go back. Nope.

The hotel was the best part of the trip.

The best hotel/pool in the area is La Costa, hands down.

Or perhaps the original poster meant Grand Pacific Palisades Resort next to Legoland. That place does have a cute splash/water play area.

The Sheraton has a very nice large free form pool but its not got anything special about it. Sheraton really dropped the ball on planning that pool.

That's funny because we took our 3 yo to LL a few months ago and thought it seemed like 6-10 year olds would be the best age to be there but i guess it depends on the kids since your kids thought it was aimed at younger kids. Our DS isn't 40 inches yet so there were a lot of rides he could't go on. The rides available to him seemed much more limited than at DLR.
Thanks for the review!

We stayed at the Grand Pac Palisades.

AWESOME place.....had a 2 bedroom villa!

Kid play pool is FANTASTIC and worth spending an afternoon there.

I would stay there again in a heart beat but not return to Legoland.

My son is 11, but he does NOT like thrill rides. As a matter of fact, he said that one of his favs at DL was Storybookland Canal Boats (snooze!).
Do you think he'll like Legoland? He LOVES Lego, he has a Lego fort or something set up in his room right now. My 13yr old niece might be bored though?

I would think that an 11 year-old Lego fan (especially one who doesn't like thrill rides) would have a great day at Legoland. If you go, check out the building areas (to the right of the entrance) in the morning so he'll know when workshops are going on. I think there was something going on that you had to sign up for (although I'm not positive).

Your niece, on the other hand, might not enjoy it as much. But its a really lovely park, and a great place to spend a day. If she is prepared for a day of really mellow rides, her expectations won't be set too high and she won't be let down.

Have a wonderful time!!!

I have been going to LL with company of various ages since my DD was 3, she is now 9.

I have taken boys ages 10, 12 and 14...and all three LOVED LL. None of them were much for thrill rides, so really thought the rides were okay. Each time we go with boys, we end up spending a lot of time in the build your own racer from legos section...one time brothers spent a good hour and a half competing!!

You niece will be likely bored. But, aren't all 13 year olds? lol!! It really depends upon the kid. It is a sweet gentle park, low key and relaxing!! So, unfortunately while a not to be missed for the boy, you may need to deal was eye rolling and sulks from the girl. Good luck.
