I am taking my two grandchildren (ages 2 and 4) to Disneyland this summer and am thinking about Legoland. Will they enjoy it at their age? And will one day be enough? And what kind of ticket do I buy? I see "hopper" tickets online but don't know what I would be "hopping" to. Thanks for your help.

My DS8 and DS10 were 2 and 4 the first time we took them to Legoland. That may have been their first theme park experience ever, come to think of it. They had a great time and there was plenty for them to do. We did two days with them because we didn't know what to expect and wanted to take things slow. That worked well for us since we were such newbies at everything, but Legoland itself can easily be enjoyed sufficiently in one day (and we have done so since that time). If you want the extras though you may want to allot more time. Since our first trip they have added a SeaLife aquarium, so I imagine that's where you would be "hopping" to. I read somewhere also that they're adding a small waterpark to open sometime this season (extra charge I believe). So you can definitely turn Legoland into a 2-day experience if you want to do so.

We just returned. The Hopper does indeed mean access to the adjoining SeaLife aquarium. The water park will open in summer this year - but it is a long way off construction-wise imo.

My boys - 5&7 loved it. We def needed more time than we got in a single 10am to 5pm day - which is their current operating hours. We blitzed through the aquarium in less than an hour - but it was WAY too short. 2 days would be much better imo.
All the rides are very slow loading so lines take a long time to ride. The exibits we had no time to really spend at - which was disappointing. The boys would have really liked to spend WAY more time. I wish we had done a 2 day hopper.

We're going on our trip, and my son was just looking at their website. As of today, they've got May 28 listed as opening day for the water park. So I don't know...

We're staying at DL and using Grayline Bus tours to go to Legoland. Since you guys have been, can you take water bottles into the park? How about snacks (like in a backpack)? Is there anything you wished you would have taken but didn't?

I'm sending my husband and ds(6) to Legoland, while my dd(10) and I head to Knotts Berry Farm for the coasters. So if I don't have him prepared, I'm pretty sure I'll hear about it. So any help you can give in advance would be GREAT!!

Yes on the water bottles and snacks...I don't even remember there being a bag search there.

FYI there is a big water play area inside LL and several rides that can get you soaked, so towels and a change of clothes (for DH and DS) would be in order. There is no way to watch your young child closely in the water area without getting soaked yourself (think huge bucket of water that dumps over the entire thing periodically) and it would be a pretty miserable ride back on the bus drenched. We usually avoid that area all together, but it might not be so easy to convince your DS to avoid it and the soaking rides too.

Other than that, lots of sunscreen, and check out the website ahead of time to know what your DS most wants to do. Some of the workshops you need to sign up for first thing or they fill up, and all the rides are slow loaders, so the lines get long and move slow...make your priority list and head toward the back of the park first and work toward the front so you work opposite the crowd.

Wow! Thanks so much for the heads up on the water activities. I had no clue about those, so I'll make sure to send them in swim gear! (and a change of clothes).

You're awesome!

You can definitely bring in food and beverages. We went with DD's Girl Scout Troop in April and I wasn't sure about bringing anything in so I left it in the car. PP is right, there is no bag search.

After we had lunch we had leftovers so I returned to our car (parked nearby-not too busy that day) and put the leftovers in the ice chest and brought snacks, sodas, and water back in. We had planned on having tuna sandwiches also but we had no bread at home and weren't able to find any stores near LL to get some before we had to hookup with the troop. If we had found bread, we could have brought the sandwiches in.
