First trip to Hilton Head...quick question

We are going to Hilton Head DVC for the first time Easter week...DH, myself and four children... what is the one thing we should not miss when we are there?? I did rent bikes , but what tours and restraunts can't be missed? Thanks!!

My suggestions might seem a little boring, but that is why we bought at HHI, So we could do nothing. We can thrill ourselves at wdw every other year.

I have yet to go on a tour since joining in '98. It just seems like work to plan at HHI.

We go to the pool and beach and take naps in the wonderful hamocks.

We like to save a little money and eat at the early bird places for dinner.
our favorites are Alexanders and Eugenes. We like to walk to the restaurants at shelter cove. Get ice cream and walk on beach or swim at pool or campfire etc.

Pirate golf is fun too.

then we go to bed.

We never have a dull moment.

We love HHI and after two visit, bought add-on just to get 11 month privilages. Lots of fun activities for kids...depending on age-our DS did marsh expedition, kids night out(movie and Mcd's)' cell painting. Beach is beautiful and just alot of fun to explore even in spring. We shop at Food Lion, but there is a Walmart I think before the bridge. We love eating at Old Oyster House, early bird at Kingfisher was good, and Scott @ shelter cove, and pizza at Guiseppis at the mall at shelter cove is also good. Great resort to just have a vacation! We are going WDW 4days in june then 3 nights at HHI for sun and relaxation.

We are going to be there in 2 weeks also!! This will be our 2nd visit, we have been dying to go back since 2003 but can't pull ourselves away from WDW. Our most favorite thing was the resort itself and all of the activities and the pool and Shadow it was all just wonderful!! Our vacation can't come soon enough!!! Hope you have a fantstic time!!!

There is a piggly wiggly within bike ride., Harris Teeter, Fresh Market (upscale), publix and Bi-Lo. (or southern marketplace) are all to the right.

Prices are ok, not like home, but not like Goodings.

Have fun doing nothing.

One thing not to be missed... And it's Free!
Ride your bikes over to the Beach House, before sunrise. Walk through to the beach access and watch the sun come up! Pack a beach blanket. Awesome experience. Even though it was dark on the ride over, the bike path is well lit and safe. We can't wait to bring the kids back.
Speaking of bikes, one of the best parts of the trip was sitting on the back porch reading, while the kids (one on a bike w/training wheels and one on a big wheel) made loops around the building on the path. They were able to ride and we were able to sit and still keep an eye on the little ones.

what is the one thing we should not miss when we are there??

I would highly recommend that you take a Dolphin Tour. They take you out in a smallish boat into the sound area and you get really close to the Dolphins. One of the best things we've done at HHI.

Go to Harbour Town in Sea Pines Plantation. Also, the Salty Dog at South Beach in Sea Pines is popular. It's nothing special--just nice to sit outside and have food/drinks at the marina. It's casual. Make sure to get a t-shirt. Our family loves the bike paths on the island. Hope you get great weather!

I second the Dolphin tour. They come right up to the boats which is great for some awsome photos. We will be going in June and can't wait. Have a great time.

This info is all great!! Thank you everyone !! One more question though I just talked to a friend that insisted we will have to drive or get a ride to the beach. Can't we ride bikes on a path of some sort?? How far is it??

We've always ridden our bikes to the beach. It's about 1-1 1/2 miles I think with bike paths all the way. Just be careful on the part under the main highway (278). It's kind of twisty-turny and one day I ran head-long into someone on my bike. Gee, I just realized-DH hasn't wanted to rent bikes there since then-wonder why?
As far as what not to miss, we never forget to bring our binocculars. Then we sit by the water, scanning the horizon for Dolphins-we've seen them a few times at the resort and it's always exciting. And every evening after dark, we take our "evening walk"-along the marina where we can admire all the big yachts. Yes, we do have such an exciting time!

Just curious....which dolphin tour do you all take? We currently have the beach combing tour booked with Scott at Low Country Nature Tours. While we are so excited about it and he was so nice and friendly, I can't help but think how much this is going to cost the 3 of us. $160.00 plus tip is a lot for us to spend so I was wondering if others have done this one or is there another one we should look into?

March is our traditional time to go to HH. We've gone the last three years in a row. Weather can be extremely variable-nice, sunny, in the high 702 one year w/no rain; next year, temps never above mid-50s, rained all week; last year was somewhere in between, but not warm enough to swim. But since we usually go in March, we, at least, think it's worth the weather gamble.

There are a lot of dolphin cruises offered throughout the island. I know there are some from the Harbor Town marina and some from Broad Creek. In Harbor Town, they have little stands near the pier. Also, check the guide books Island Events and Where to Go on HHI (you can get them everywhere free). They have lots of good coupons in them for the cruises. We took a cruise from Harbor Town. It was fun, but we had to come in early because of an approaching thunder storm. That part was very exciting for the kids--maybe even more than the few dolphins we saw.
