Due to injuries from a tragic accident in 2008 I now have to do Disney World in a wheelchair. I used to have a blood clot the full length of my left leg but it is gone. However, the leg still gives me issues. I also have blood clots in my lungs that make it difficult to walk long distances without getting winded.
Okay now that you have the backstory..

DF and I are taking our first trip Dec 23 - 29th just the two of us. Orginally, I was going to bring my wheelchair from home but opted to just rent one when I get to Orlando. I'm calling the airline in the morning to have them note I need wheelchair assistance to get to the gate and then to Magical Express once we get to MCO.

We have early morning ADRs most mornings in whatever respective park we will be visiting that day. Before you say "Oh go get an ECV. It will be easier on your fiance, etc" I have to explain that I have cerebral palsy and it keeps me from having quick reflexes and reaction time so I would probably do more damage in one then what its worth.

We plan to start the day out early and try to use FP and take breaks from time to time, more so for my fiance considering he'll be pushing me through the parks. Is there any other advice or tips you can share with me? Normally, when we go to Disney and I'm in a wheelchair its not a big deal cause normally we have friends with us so they just switch off with my fiance. However, this trip its just he and I and I don't want him to get worn out.

19 days until I'm to my happy place :santa:

I would look into rental of a wheelchair from off site, either one of the local off-ste vendors or even from a vendor at home. These off-site rentals are probably better quality and lighter-weight chairs. This way you will have it available at the Resorts and DTD as well as the Parks. And it can be folded onto a tram or bus.

You will be there during the busiest time of the year, so plan for longer wait times in the parks and on transportation plus big crowds. I'm sorry to hear about your accident but I'm glad you feel up to taking a trip to Disney! At least the magic of Christmas will be in the air there. I guess I'd focus on the holiday offerings that aren't available during other times of the year, such as the shows, Candlelight Processional, and the Osborne lights. Remember you can rest in First Aid if you need to get out of the hustle and bustle.---Kathy

If you cannot walk up bus steps, make sure you tell Magical Express that - they do not have a ramp, but a lift which goes between 6 and 8 feet in the air. I would not stand on it. I think they can loan you a wheelchair to get into the bus.

If you have not rented off site yet, do so NOW. That is the busiest week of the year, MK will hit capacity a couple of those days, and you should NOT plan on renting in the parks. Not only are they clunky and uncomfortable, but they may well run out. If you go back to the hotel and take breaks, you likely will NOT be able to rent another one later in the day.
