We finally got back last night around 10pm. W drove about 15 hours to get home yesterday. We were origionally planning on stopping to see some sites on the way home but after our wonderful time at disney world we just wanted to get home. We were to tired to do anything.

I plan on telling a lot more of my adventure, and i hope to get around to it soon.

Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a great time...fill us in when you have the time!:thumbsup2

Glad to hear you had fun. Rest up then write up:thumbsup2

I am going to try to start writing about our trip now. I don't want to make a full scale trip report like on the trip report forum so i am just going to do this on the canadian boards.
The family.......Me 28 years old. Never out of the country before.
Wife 26 years old. never been to disney
Son 7 years old First trip out of the country
Son 5 years old. First trip out of the country.

My wife only had 8 days of holidays so we had a fairly short trip. So she had her 8 days so we had four night at the All-Star movie resort. The rest of the time was spent driving. We were to check in at disney July 20 and leave on the 24th.
We live in a small town 2 hours north of Toronto, called Hanover Ontario. So we were anticipating about a 22-24 hour drive. So on the morning of July 19th we were to get up at 2am and we hoped to be on the road before 3am. Now of course that didn't happen. Some time soon after 1am we realized that we were all awake because we were to excited. We figureed at that point we might as well just get up. So we ended up on the road before 2am.:goodvibes We were going to cross the border at Sarnia. So we arrived there right at 5am. I was so nervous cause it was my first time. With our luck we ended up getting pulled over for inspection. We had to go in a building and fill out a form well another guy inspected our car. We were still out of there in about 15 minutes.:yay:
We were taking the i 75 all the way down. We had a hotel booked in Dalton Georgia for that night. We pulled in there soon after 5pm. It took about 15 hours to drive there including our stops. So we ate some supper there and swam for a while and got an early night to bed after the long drive that day and the big day that was to come.

i will continue with DAY 2 July 20 later on.

thanks for reading.

...not that they need to provide an explanation, but why on earth did they pull you over and inspect your vehicle? Goodness! We are travelling in October with our four kids, and I wonder how the kids will react to such a thing should that happen to us (DD12 DD10), my twelve year old would be devastated to think of someone going thru her suitcase! :lmao:

I expect that on the way home, not necessarily on the way there!

Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

Border inspections are random, for the most part...they might pick the 6th blue car, or whatever...:confused3

canadaman...I live in Ripley! Small world!:)

We drive I75 also. Takes forever from Detriot, home. Went to UofG with a guy from Hanover and Ripley. Loved their Whisky!!!

July 20

WE got up about 5:30am in Dalton to get ready to hit the road and were on our way by soon after 6am. We knew there was major road work through downtown Atlanta but we thought that early in the morning that it wouldn't be an issue, so we didn't take the bypass. Things were going well until the point were the i85 joins the i75. Suddenly we were in gridlock. The construction started there and went for 2 and 1/2 miles so we figured that it couldn't take to long. It only took around 20 minutes to get through it and we were on our way again towards the mouse's house.
Then we found out first hand how big of a state Georgia is. It took forever to drive through there, but finally we hit the Welcome to Florida sign. Things started getting exciting here.   Soon after we realized that the northern area of Florida on the i75 is pretty boring and that the Florida turnpike was still well over 100 miles away.
When we finally reached the florida turnpike everyone was pretty excited. Except my 5 year old who was passed out. We finally got him to wake up and put on the kids disney CD. They were dancing and singing to all the sings and really got us excited. We finally got off the trunpike and onto the 429 which took us to Western Way where we seen the Welcome to Disney World Sign. WE had had a picture of that on the desktop on our computer for month, but it really didn't prepare you for actually crossing under it. After that we turned unto West Buena Vista Drive and arrived at All Star Movie resort it was about 3:30 when we got there. The total time according to our GPS in the car was about 24:30 to drive there, including all stops.
Check in went quickly and we were up to our room which was on the 3rd floor in the Woody building. We had asked for the Buzz building but Woody would do just fine. We were surprised that the resort didn't seem to be to packed full of people as we had expected. We were planning on going to Downtown Disney that night so we un-packed some of our stuff, went for a little swim, had some supper in the food court, and finally waited for a bus to Downtown Disney.
We had excellent experiences with the bus's the whole stay. The wait for the Downtown Dinsey bus was the longest we had. We waited about 20 minutes for it to arrive. We just wondered around looking in some stores and taking in the sights. My kids loved the Lego store and ended up buying a few sets of Lego for when they got home. We bought a few other things there and then headed back to the buses soon after 9pm.
We had an early night to bed that night as our next day was our first park day. We were going to Hollywood Studios.:cool1:

Great start! Looking forward to hearing more. DS's first out of country trip was also to ASMo !

First trips are so exciting....it's alot of fun hearing about them.

Thanks for sharing.

Looking forward to more. Can't imagine driving all that way:drive: I'm a firm believer that was why someone figured out how to fly:rotfl:

Can't wait to read more! I'm so glad you're posting it here...I wish we had our own trip report section. :genie: *rub, rub*

Interesting to see that you guys drove down to spend only 4 days there (although you explained the reasons).

Was it worth it?

Sometimes I think about driving to Florida to spend 6 or 7 days there and ask myself if it's not too much time driving X time spent in Orlando.

Waiting for more.... popcorn::

WE do feel that is was worth it. It was either 4 days or we waited and hoped to have more time next year. With the Canadian dollar so high this year we thought lets just go. We made the drive into park of the vacation. Also we figured the short 4 day trip we took can be like a "scouting" trip for next time when we hope to be able to stay longer.
