I have two trips coming up in late September and early December celebrating being alive after Leukemia and a Bone Marrow Transplant. I’m a year and a half out and doing well, but I do need to be careful with the sun and heat. I’ll slather suntan lotion on but am I correct that on lines that run into the Sun, or if I’m too hot I can get a DSA to wait elsewhere? I also hit a fatigue wall mid afternoon but we take a break anyways, and I’ll wear my mask outside too unless We’re truly around no one.

Take along a pretty parasol for shade and a mister bottle to cool down! Congratulations!! Stay strong and healthy! :-)

Congratulations and definitely get a DAS. I understand the sun issue. I have systematic lupus and have to limit my sun exposure to as close to zero as possible. An umbrella does help but without DAS I wouldn't be able to Disney World anymore. I wait somewhere air-conditioned until my DAS return time opens, so make sure to find good places inside or in the shade to wait. Have a wonderful trip in December!

Congratulations you are a fighter!!

My son gets a DAS for similar reasons... including his meds make him non tolerant to heat and sun .. go figure that we live in the sunshine state.

Thank you all! I just got back from our September trip and everything went well. I did get a DAS and only needed it a few times, but it was nice to have it when needed. The heat wasn’t too bad, and it was definitely a slower trip with good breaks every day.

How did you handle the sun/heat issues outside of the queuing? Did you drive to the parks or take the buses, for example?

We took the buses. They weren’t packed and we were able to keep some distance. We stayed at The Wilderness Lodge so we took the boat to the MK. We did take breaks back at the resort and sat in the shade in the parks to rest, this was a mellow trip. We kept hydrating too. It wasn’t unbearably hot though. I do not wear the spf long sleeve clothing or anything because I’ve learned I need to be dressed as light as possible.

Waiting for the bus to show up wasn't a problem? The sun exposure at some of the bus stops used to be a problem for me, as was the long walk to the bus stop (we stay at Pop Century a lot). Luckily, I've noticed that more and more bus stops have covering for at least part of the queue. Were you able to find shade at all of the bus stops?

We had shade at the bus stops. Sometimes waited under cover other times in the late afternoon there was a wonderful breeze, and the sun wasn’t bright. The walk to the bus stop leaving a park sometimes got hot, but it was survivable. The bus stops at AK had the fans going full speed. We didn’t wait really long for any bus except for one day at the resort around 4:15 we waited an hour and twenty minutes for an Epcot bus, but it wasn’t too hot out. Our mid day breaks really help “reset” the body.
