My wife and I arrive at BCV on the 15th for our first trip home. 7days there and then 5 at OKW. What discounts (restaurants, golf, etc.) are currently offered to DVC members? I understand information is given when you check in. Is this sort of thing included? Any tips, advice, etc. any of you would have for DVC "virgins"? We'd appreciate any and all replies. Needless to say, we'r beside ourselves with excitement and anticipation. Hopefully the weather is a little better this year, than it was this time last year. I know storms can be expected, but there was little break from the rains in mid-June '02.

In your packet when you check in you will receive a list of discounts. The discounts run about 10 % at certain restaurants. You can golf for a discount but again that will come when you check in. You should have a good time, it isn't that crowded that time of year. Have fun:D

Hi SamS -

We just got back from BCV.

Here's what we got at checkin:

Perk Pages with a listing of all current discounts for DVC members.

Pocket Perks - a smaller, pocket-sized version of the Perk Pages.

Park hours, etc.

As mentioned in a prior post, the current listing of perks is always on the member website.

Remember to carry your DVC member card and remember to use it. We kept forgetting to use ours and probably lost out on a few discounts we could have had if we had remembered to use it everywhere.

Have fuN!!!

Don't they print "member" on the room card keys? I thought that was how we got our discounts, I never remember having to pull out our DVC cards.

Yes - "*MEMBER*" was printed on the room keys, but I had to show my DVC card a couple times to get the discount. Maybe the people helping us didn't know that we were supposed to get our discounts. I think I had both cards with me at all times, so most of the time I just flashed both (DVC to validate membership, and room card to pay for purchases).

We just got back from 4 days at OKW. On the perks - some suggestions:

1) At check-in they will give you a brochure and a "pocket-perks" guide that will give you a list of all the perks. An alternative is to print the info off the DVC Member website (NOTE: The web site stuff may be more up to date - see below). That way you can review it before you get there.

2) I just noticed that DVC Members now receive a 10% discount at the Cape May Cafe. I think that just went in to effect on June 1st (and was not published when I checked in on May 31). The Cape May is in the BCV.

3) GOLF: Forget the DVC Perks - the best golf deal is the twilight rate which is currently $30.00 after 3:00 PM. By the time you go it will be so hot that you will not want to play until after 3:00 anyways.

4) Valet Parking: My wife and I love to visit all the hotels. And, the kids like to Pool Hop. You get free Valet Parking at the BCV, BWV, WLV and OKW. And, while you do not get it at the other hotels, the attendant usually gave it to me for free (and I tipped them 2 or 3 bucks).

Have fun.

Thanks to all of you who have replied regarding DVC perks. Five days till departure; six days till arrival!! One more question. Anyone want to guesstimate how long it will take to drive from Harrisburg, PA to Brunswick, GA? I know it'll be a long day - we planned it that way - I just don't know how long. Last year we stayed in Florence, SC and that was eight hours from home and WDW.

Sams It is about 750 miles to Brunswick GA and should take you about 12 hours. From there it is about 225 miles to Orlando and should take you about 3 1/2 hours--hope this helps-have fun on your trip. :D

We are from Atlanta, but, on the way home we went to Savannah (and right past Brunswick). Not much construction:

I - 4 Orlando to Daytona, some, but not bad.

I - 95 'tween Daytona and Jacksonville they are widening the road and the road is tore up. About 20 miles - No delays, just a pain in the but driving.

I-95 Savannah to Brunswick! They have about 25 miles of construction. We travelled through on a Wednesday - no problems.

But, as a GA native I can tell you that the GA DOT is famous for working on major projects on weekends. So, they will shut down one lane on Friday night (midnight) - that can put a serious hitch in your geddy-up! For example, I was delayed 3 hours coming back in April due to construction on 75 South.

They will have signs posted warning of the construction - where it starts and ends. Keep a map handy - if you need to you may be able to divert around it using other small state highways.

You also may try the Georgia DOT web page - but - I find the thing useless. AAA may also have more specific info.

Good luck, Drive Safe, Have Fun!
