We got back 8/30 from our first trip home to the VWL (we had made our first DVC trip this April to HH and loved it). After 4 nights at that other park, we spent 5 nights at the VWL. We had a dedicated 2-bedroom which was really nice. My 3 kids commented on how much it reminded them of HH. We got a couple of "Welcome Homes" but we only saw 1 other lime green ribbon there. Everything went great. We spent one day at TL, 2 at MK, one at MGM and one at Epcot. The weather was warm, and not too much rain (although the night we went to see Fantasmic, it was rained out). The crowds were very managable, lots of people from England and other countries. While we were there it was my DS 9th birthday, and he wanted to spend that day at Epcot. Epcot does have birthday buttons at guest services. For his birthday dinner he chose Le Cellier, which was great. They did not charge us for his dinner, and at the end they brought out a delicious birthday cake that was decorated with Maple Leaf cookies. When we got back to our room there was another wonderful chocolate birthday cake (with his name on it) with lots of chocolate shavings around it and a birthday card with an autographed photo of Mickey.
We had never been to WDW in the summer, so we wanted to try Mickey's Backyard BBQ. This was the only thing I would have done differently. While the CM's were great there, it was VERY noisy, hot and crowded. They spend a lot of the evening lining up the characters for autograph sessions. This was not my idea of the way to spend a dinner. I prefer the HDD much more. We also had dinner at the Brown Derby which we love. Cannot get enough of that Cobb Salad, even my kids who pick everything out of their salad loved it.
I was able to get breakfast ressies for CRT for all the days we were there, and I cancelled the ones we didn't use. My DD (5) loved it. I thought the food was good. I really liked the cheese stuffed french toast and those potatoes.
The next time we go all of us were commenting on how we would like to spend less times in the parks, and more just relaxing around the hotel. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
