Me. Paul. 34. Chief planner and taxi driver. Scared and excited at the thought of the big coasters.
DS9. Paul (now called junior for the sake of this report). Absolutely bursting at the thought of Disney. As scared as his dad of the coasters but isn't showing it (yet).
Dad. 60 something. Doesn't know how he is going to handle 9 hours without a cigarette!
Brother. John. 45. Possibly the most excited of us all. Definitely looking forward to meeting Mickey.
Day 9 - Friday 22nd June 2007
After last night's late shenanigans, today was definitely going to be a late start so we had already decided that we wouldn't bother with a park. AK was gonna have to wait til our next free day, Monday! Already it seems we are running out of days to do things, and we've only had 1 full week. Note to self: definitely try for the 3 weeks next time!
So, after a late rise me and Junior decided we would head up to the Fun Spot on I-Drive for a shot of the go-karts. After a stop-off in Walmart for some Irn-bru and pastries, we headed over past Sea-World and began the long slog up I-Drive. No camera with me today though so no photos im afraid. I had a major blonde moment trying to get in to the fun spot. I could see the fairground, and took the next left expecting to then be able to take a right turn into the fairground. Not so....
We were now on a slip road onto the I-4, heading North. Totally confused, I came off at the next exit, which was another big mistake. I joined a road that I couldn't get back off of again! We must have drove for about 10 miles before there was an exit, which took us back on to the Beachline Expressway heading for the I4 - right next to the airport!! Now THAT is what you call lost!
When we came off the Beachline at the I-Drive exit, we were right back at the bottom again, where we had been about an hour and a half before! To make matters worse, the rain came thudding down minutes later, and we pulled into the car park of the Congo River golf just for cover (I could barely see out the windscreen it was raining so hard!). Once the rain subsided, Paul decided that he wanted to go and feed the 'gators at the mini-golf, so we headed over and done that for a while, and Paul then decided that we should forget the fun-spot idea, and get a game of golf instead.
We sacked the scorecards after about 5 holes, as they were getting drenched from the rain still passing through the overhanging trees! Also, I didnt realise how humid it would actually be!! I don't know if it was just because of the abundant foliage around the course or whether the humidity was the same outside our little oasis of the golf course, but I have never felt humidity so extremely before, with my whole body drenched in sweat. It was actually something of a relief to get the game finished, and we felt a bit better once we had reached the car, and the comfort of the AC.
T-shirts changed, we headed back to the hotel and Paul spent some time around the pool after we had showered and changed properly. A couple of hours later, Dad and John turned up (Yep, you guessed it, Hooters again!) so we decided we would head off to the Premium Outlets again. We hit Subway in the Outlets first to fill up (Paul decided Subway were the best sandwiches ever, and would have had one for breakfast, lunch and dinner by the end of the holiday!) before we hit the shops and found some more great bargains. I got 2 pairs of Levis for £20, and some nice t-shirts from the Nike shop. Paul got several pairs of trainers, shoes, t-shirts shorts and a tracksuit, as well as some other odds and ends. Dad and John picked up a load of stuff as well. I was slightly annoyed that I hadn't left more space in our suitcases, as I could easily have spent more if I had the space to put it all.
After our little expedition to the outlets, we decided to head back to the room for a couple of hours and watch some TV. Or, rather, we went back and I suffered 2 hours of Spongebob Squarepants. Deciding that we were feeling a bit peckish, we headed downstairs to the hotel bar and caught up with Amy and Nick (the couple from Blackpool who im sure I mentioned before). Me, junior and their son Connor headed off to McDonald's to round off a day's healthy eating, before returning to the bar for a nightcap and bed. We have a big day ahead tomorrow, as we are off for a day at the beach and to see the baseball at St Petersburg!
Great memories
