First Timers to DL

Hello I am looking for some help from my fellow disers. I would like to take my wife to DL for our first anniversary trip in August. Neither of us have been to DL (but are huge WDW fans) or California before. Any must see things to do when we go out there? Any good deals? Please help with any ideas.

Are you staying at a Disney owned hotel? Or offsite. How many days? Will you have a car??

If you have a car, make sure you go to the ocean, Newport, Huntington beaches are close and wonderful.

DL is great. If you have 3 full days, you can probably see and do most things. We sometimes stay less and only do our favorites.

If you are staying offsite, we like the Carousel Inn and Howard Johnsons. Others swear by the Candy Cane Inn.

Best places to eat are Napa Rose, Blue Bayou, Ralph Brennans, Rainforest, ESPN Zone and many different counter service places in the parks.

Attractions you must do Indiana Jones, Matterhorn, Pirates, Haunted, Mr Toad, California Screamin, Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin...

You have to do Hollywood (at least in our opinion). We did one of those tours, and hit Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, etc...

She (even you) will probably enjoy the Aladdin show at CA.

Great thing about DL/CA, is that you can walk everywhere - no buses are necessary.
