We are going on our very first trip to WDW on Dec 2-9th.I will have my 2 1/2 yr old a 3 month old and a 13yo along with DH and myself. I want to do something special the first night but hadnt planned on going to the parks. We are staying at the Poly.
I was thinking maybe a character meal for an early dinner like at 1900 Park Fare. Does anyone have any other ideas or does this sound ok? I want to do something special for our first night, any and all ideas are appreciated!

Take the monorail to the Contemporary and go to Chef Mickey's. It's a great way to start your vacation!!!

This is what we decided to do for our first night! :thumbsup2 We're first timers too, so I do't know how we'll be feeling that night (have a 6AM flight from Denver!). But we're getting 9 day hoppers, so if we feel up to it we're going to hop the monorail to the MK after dinner. :)

We went to Chef Mickey's the first night. We drove to get down there. So we didn't really have the energy to go to the parks the first night. Chef Mickey's was a grand time. It was a little thing to get us into the Disney trip the first night. Started us off quite well.

WE'VE NEVER BEEN EITHER. WE HAVE THE GARDEN GRILL SCHEDULED FOR OUR FIRST NIGHT. IT HAS MOST OF THE SAME CHARACTERS AS CHEF MICKEY BUT IS TURNING. CALIFORNIA GRILL IS SUPPOSE TO HAVE A PLACE TO WATCH THE FIREWORKS AND PLAY THE MUSIC. :confused3 GOOD LUCK ON CHOSING. I HOPE I MADE A GOOD CHOICE.

I think a Character Meal on the Monorail Line is a great idea for your first night.

1900 Park Fare is a good choice, food is very good, your the first stop from the Poly. This meal features Cindy, Prince Charming, Fairy Godmother, and a couple of the mice Suzy and Perla.

Chef Mickey is another great choice. Food here is also good. I think this is a great First Night Choice, Pure Disney, unless your looking to see Cindy. At Chef Mickey you have the basic Disney Characters. Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip. Dale and sometimes Donald. It a fun time with napkin waving and singing. A great way to start off your vacation. Chef Mickey is the 3 stop on the Monorail Line.

One other little note The Poly is a great place to ask if you can sit up front with the monorail driver. My Granddaughters got to ride up front quite a few times this past fall. They loved it.

I think whatever one you choose you'll have a magical first night.

One other note because your staying at a Magic Kingdom Resort. Each night starting at 9:00 pm there is an Electric Water Pageant on Bay Lake

Here is some info on the water parade;
