I am heading to Disneyland for the first time in May. tinkerbell weekend. What's a good hotel, cheap. Thinking about hte Anaheim plaza, thoughts??? Thanks

We stayed at the Anaheim Portofino for our first trip in 2011. It was close enough to walk to the park and we loved it. :)

We are staying at the Anaheim Plaza for the second time. It's a motel that is on the next block and not a bad walk at all. We had no problems, it was clean and large.

Not sure how long you are staying, but both the Tropicana and Camelot offer 10% off for 5 nts or more. We just stayed there in January for $99 a nt. Can't beat the location. It was adequete. A litle noisy, but clean and that's what's important to me. We are going to try the Camelot in May. I stayed there years ago, so not recent thoughts on it. But we liked it back then. Even without the 10% discount, they both still have the cheapest rates of any of the motels on harbor with very short walks, which is super important to us. 5 minute walk at most to both properties. Easy walk for mid day nap, or if you are like us and stay all day, at the end of the day the super short walk is important to us.

I've stayed at the Anaheim Plaza just once before about 3 or 4 years ago. The customer service wasn't the best and my room looked beat up and outdated. I really only half-cared because I was not going to spend much time there anyway. For the distance to the park, you really can't beat the price!! I'm going to give it another chance and will be staying there in a couple of weeks. If I remember, I will update on the condition when I get back. I assume things will be better this time, we'll see.

Considering that the various races that weekend sold out 5-6 months ago, cheap is relative at this point. Availability is what you're probably going to contend with. They do charge for parking, Wi Fi and no breakfast included. If you're planning on using those things, consider the extra cost. My room was tiny, the furniture was too big for the room and blocked access to one side of the bed. Had there been 2 people sharing, one would have had to crawl over the other to get out in the middle of the night. That bothered me. If you're going to be running the races and checking items, I'd recommend driving from there, as it would be an even longer walk to and from the start area if you have to go to the tent first. On the other hand, for Tink I think the corrals go down Katella, so it could be a great location to just walk to the corral. It might be about even, I'm not sure which direction the corrals go down Katella. I do know that the race guide that will come out later has a list of hotels that offer a free shuttle for the races. Not sure where it drops off for Tink, but for Star Wars it was the Harbor side of the esplanade, then you had to walk through DTD.
