Hi, we are planning our first trip to Disney mid-August 2016. I know it's quite a bit early but I'm a planner and a list maker and I like to research everything before I do anything. So I'm doing pros and cons of the resorts, restaurants, shops, parks, etc. Anyhoo, my home resort is AK but I'm looking at all the resorts. I'd like a 1 BR for the full kitchen so we can eat breakfast and a few other meals in the room to save money so I've pretty much ruled out the resorts at the MK (not enough points), which is fine with us. I've read some comments saying that OKW is a little run down and dated so I don't know if it's a good option (the points work well for us though) and from the thing I've read about AK it is beautiful but sprawling and difficult to get around with limited meal options. So, unless there's something I'm missing, that leaves me with the Beach, Boardwalk or Saratoga Springs resorts. I'm leaning toward Saratoga Springs but being that it's in the DTD area I'm not sure if that's a good location. My son's going to be 10 when we go so I don't have to worry about grumpy, tired toddlers. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Just pick a resort and go for it, next vacation, pick a different one. Keep a short list of the things you liked and didn't like at each resort after a few years you will have your list of favorites and resorts to skip.

As Bill said, just choose any of the DVC resorts for this trip because odds are you will probably visit all of them at some point. Even though VWL is our home we prefer OKW and have not found it too dated but rather just comfy for our needs. Even our DD's have found OKW to their liking also and will choose OKW over all the other resorts. By visiting all of the resorts you will find which ones you like best and my guess is you will be very surprised at your favorites in that they may not be the ones you thought they would be. Our DD was bummed when OKW was booked up for her April trip and she had to "settle" for SSR..."oh no, not SSR"...well as you might expect she had a great time and really liked SSR even though it was different than OKW which is exactly what Disney intended...different strokes for different folks.

If your son is ten, my personal opinion is that the Epcot area is perfect for him. Hollywood is awesome for a kid his age (jedi training academy!).

My sister bought BLT in 2009 when her oldest was 7. In the last 4 years she tries to stay by Epcot/Hollywood bc her kids prefer that area. It's also priceless to wake up and walk to the resort....

Have fun!!
