Renting?

Quotes from DVC within that article-

Here’s what Disney said in the release: “Renting points is allowed on occasion. Frequently or regularly renting/selling reservations is strictly prohibited. The intent of the Commercial Use Policy is to address Members who are engaged in the practice of frequently or regularly renting/selling reservations to the general public.”

Disney addressed renting points on third party websites. They said: “Frequently or regularly renting/selling reservations is strictly prohibited. DVC is not affiliated with any third-party rental websites. Members who use third party websites assume responsibility for any resulting consequences.”

I have no issue with Disney/DVC going after memberships for profit.

Just when I thought it was hopeless…. 🤣

DVC made a big show in Dec 2024 and then kinda blew it off Dec 2025. Glad they are still interested in protecting the membership from the harmful aspects of commercial enterprise.

Halle frickn lujah!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

I think it’s telling that they used the words “general public”

Back to my errands but can’t wait to dive into this more later.

Thank you for sharing this. Im glad a little bit more has been released i think, I didnt know about what the actual consequences could be, but its pretty much the same as what we already know unless im missing something
This is different than what has been released by DVC in the past.

Restricting members from banking borrowing and transferring.

Also wasn’t trying to be mean to you in your other post. But DVC holds the cards and I wouldn’t rent without realizing there could be consequences. And I wouldn’t want you to suffer any consequences especially since your membership meets that 20 reservation guideline.

I know i was a bit taken aback by it and got defensive because I know im in it for the right reasons, but I know you are well intentioned, renting irks you, and I still ❤️ you 😆

Yes that 20 reservation thing.

I wonder though… in Girlstar30’s case the vast majority of those bookings would be their own reservation or part of their travel party on matching travel dates as the member.

That seems much easier to prove than someone who tries to claim all the reservations that don’t include themself or travel dates are all just reservations they gave away to friends and family.

That’s what all these Facebook renters try to say. How does DVC know that these lead guests aren’t my friends/family?

Unintended consequences can happen to those who are in it for the right reasons. It’s possible to get caught up in the cross fire of actual commercial renters especially since the 20 reservation clause has been there for forever. Yes you could probably fight your way out of it by proving you are not a commercial renter. But that is a hassle and stressful and takes the joy out of DVC so I personally just don’t think it’s worth the risk. I also have more than 20 reservations so I won’t be renting because of that.

Looks like a big nothing burger from a quick read (while sipping some sparkling wine poolside at BWV 🙂).

Well, I see @VGCgroupie’s comment about the potential enforcement avenues they mentioned in an FAQ. I suppose that is new. But until we actually hear stories of actual enforcement, I’m not sure this does anything
The new policy that has been published outlines a number of new enforcement avenues and is quite detailed…

Official policy updates are at this link by resort. To me, the most interesting thing is that the more than 20 reservations per 12 month period where the majority of reservations are not by the owner is listed as a possible violation. IMO, that probably continues to provide a pretty good safe harbor for the vast majority of owners who do own primarily for personal use, but want to rent their points sometimes.

I think Tom Bricker (link to his article is above and here: Tom Bricker Article DVC Rental Crackdown) is right. Probably a lot of posturing on the part of DVC management to make it look like they are listening to complaints and doing something. He even makes a point that it may not be legal, but just a scare tactic. Also, to make potential renters a little more leery about renting and maybe just book through Disney instead (and Disney makes the money). Guess time will tell!

I will have to go read it. But the old school rules of 20 reservations that have been on there since the beginning seem like an easy baseline for them to go off of and since it’s in the POS and has been I don’t really think DVC is going to get themselves into a legal battle they can’t easily win.
