I have a couple of questions. We will be going to camp at FW in the first part of Oct (3rd-11th). We are planning on spending most of the time at the parks. Do we need a golf cart for the entire time, and what is the best loop to be in if we are spending most of our time at WDW. Also is there a place close by to get groceries. Thanks for your time

WOW First time You must be very excited. Ours first time was back in 1972. Anyway The loops are near equal. The only difference being how close you are to the transportation. And if you have a golf cart that will take care of that problem. As for a place to get some vittles Go out the main gate and head south on Rt. 192 it takes you into Kissimee. follow 192 until you see Camping World (will be on the left). Just passed CW will be a Winn/Dixie (again on the left) If you have any problems finding it just stop into CW and they will help you out. they're nice people. Well hope this helps you out. Have a great time

How exciting! We loved having a golf cart. We didn't request a specific loop (except a pet loop) We didn't use the grocery store so I can't comment on that but I will say that I ended up bringing almost all the food I brought home once we ate at Trail's End!!! Ended up there every day:eek: Good thing we went with a DC discount and Value Season!!! Have a wonderful time!:D

There is another Winn Dixie on 535. Go to Crossroads shopping Center and turn north (left) it will be on your right about 1.5 miles up if I remember right. There is also a grocery in the Crossroads center, but tend to run a higher priced. We don't use a golf cart, the buses run regularly and the walking is good for us. This time we are taking our bikes. Have a great trip. You will love the campground, the best in the States.

If you are going to have an off (non-park) day, I'd rent the golf cart for that day. It really makes it easier to enjoy FW.

You will pass several Publix grocery stores on the way to FW--we like to shop there! The Goodings at the Crossroads across from Downtown Disney has prices that are almost exactly the same as the FW trading posts! And remember--on many of the staples the trading posts aren't too bad.

We rented a golf cart for the first day to get familiar with the campground but didn't think it was necessary after that. Transportation was good.

Based on advice before our trip I shipped 2 boxes of non perishables to the campground a week before we went and stopped for perishables on route to the campground. This worked great. We ate at the cabin and packed sandwiches, water, pringles and fruit snacks for lunch. We ate dinner out twice, lunch once and breakfast once. We averaged $60.00 a day for food and used up almost all of our groceries. This helped immensely in keeping our trip to something we could afford and the kids didn't seem to mind at all.

Hope this helps.

Oh I have to totally agree with campingcorgi!!! Only rent a golf cart if you will be spending the day in the campground. Otherwise you will be wasting your money! The bus system is phenomenal at WDW! I was there in busy summer season & never had to wait for more than 5 or 10 minutes for a bus! They will take you anywhere you want to go! I also suggest when you go to Magic Kingdom take the boat from the marina to MK. It's a nice ride & you can look at the islands along the way. After taking the bus the 1st day to MK I took the boat the rest of the time. Much more relaxing! Granted sometimes the buses are really crowded but they are also fun to interact with the other WDW goers. If you see a crowded bus coming up & you don't want to stand for the ride, just wait for the next one. It never bothered me to stand though & they are very convenient!

Hope you have a blast! Don't forget to wear your lime green ribbon so other DIS board posters will know you post here too!

P.S. If you do rent a golf cart...remember you need to pull over off the road when a car, motorhome, or bus comes up behind you! They have rearview mirrors so it's not a problem to know they are there.

Also, if you're going to be spending most of your time in the parks, you might want to not get the golf cart but instead spend a little more on a preferred loop and request a loop near the Settlement. (Just remember, they take requests for loops, but don't guarantee them.) That way when you get off the buses or the boats you'll be within very close walking distance to your campsite. But if you are going to have at least one full day around the campground, then definitely consider doing as suggested and rent a cart for that day, or rent bikes for the day. For us, just being around FW is as much fun as the parks! Have fun! :D

We will be spending most of the time in the parks. What loop would you recommend?

I like the 900 loop. Perferred loops & regular loops have one difference...cable TV...not worth the additional price in my book! The 900 loop has the bus stop right at the opening of the loop, the store is right across the street from the loop entrance & has a convenience station in the loop. What more could you want!? It's also not so far of a walk if you choose to walk to the marina or just want to go for a walk. Also the campfire/movie is right next to/behind the store across the street as is the bike barn where you would rent bikes & golf carts. I ask them to put it on my confirmation that I want the 900 loop & then re-request it when I get there. If you go for site 910 thru 914 you are far away enough from the main road so you don't hear the noise of traffic!

Have fun! We will be there Nov. 10th thru the 21st.

LMCCLOUN, you probably would want to consider what's most important to you. Loops 100 and 200 are right beside the Settlement Trading Post, which is at the marina and Pioneer Hall and close to the buses to the parks, but I don't remember them being as shaded as some of the others. They are preferred loops, and it's true that cable TV access is the only other amenity you get, but they are also preferred because of their close location. After doing a lot of walking in the parks it gives the advantage of being able to get off the bus or boat and have a very short walk to your site without needing to wait for and board another bus to your loop. We love loop 1400 (also preferred) which is right beside the campfire/movie, Meadow Trading Post and Bike Barn, and pool. The particular sites we like are close to the comfort station and the path to the campfire. We personally like hearing some noise, it's part of the atmosphere to us, but it's bothersome to others...everybody's different. We've been in a lot of different loops, which were all nice, but 1400 is just our personal favorite. There's a map of FW on wdwig.com, click on Accomodations, then FW facts, then you'll see a link for the map. Hope this helps a little...have fun planning! :D
