We are going on our first DCL (or any for that matter!) 7 day Eastern Caribbean in May -- hopefully!! We are not making our reservations until November. What are our chances of getting the catagory we want (5 or 6) or being able to even pick the room?

Well, you should have no problems getting your category but you will undoubtedly be paying a higher price in November than you would now. If you can swing the deposit now it is MUCH better to book early...the early booking savings for each cruise becomes less as the cruise fills up, and that means you pay more.

As for the cabin, that's impossible to know, you can certainly request a certain cabin at the time you make your reservation and if it's available you will get it.

Good luck. :)

How many of there are you?
I heard a great tip here on the DIS. Make the reservation for only the adults, so you only have to pay the deposit for those people....
Then later call and tell them you've decided to add the kids, and at that time you'll have to pay their deposit.

Just make sure the original room you get will sleep the total number you'll end up needing. Maybe say "we're booking now, we think it's going to be an adult only trip, but we MAY add the kids on later...." :)

HTH.

OK. I feel better now. That's a great tip about adding the kids later. In fact, they won't even know we're going until we get them up and put them on a plane. Even then, they won't know the destination until they see they ship. We're travelling with some friends. We will be in two staterooms. I just hope we can keep the secret from 4 nosy girls ages 6-11. We are taking them out of the last week of school here. Does anyone have an idea how crowded the ship will be mid May? Loose lips sink ships!!!!!

Our last 2 cruises were sold out (both mid May); but it was not a problem. Pools were a bit crowded; but they usually are anyway. I suggest you try to book ASAP though. This past May we booked on board for December 2004; and the first 2 staterooms we asked for were taken!

Have a MAGICal cruise!

OK...went ahead and made reservations. Tried for a Cat. 6 on deck 5 aft (all gone) got a Cat. 5 on deck 7 aft for the same price. Is that good??? Our friends were also able to get the room next to us. She asked about just reserving for two adults and maybe adding kids later. She was told she could do it, but if the ship booked to capacity, she wouldn't be able to add them.:(
