First timer - Alone at DL next week - what should I know?

I'll be at DL in CA with a conference next week - traveling alone. Grew up in FL and own DVC and AP's - but it's my first time at Disneyland. I can only visit in the evenings. What should I know??? Any secrets or things not to miss??

Are you staying near the resort or not?

I would read this link, obviously you can skip the parts about tranportation and hotels since you probably have that all set already.
