First time waitlisting

My wife has a conference in Orlando on December 9-11 so 4 of us will be staying with her at the Hyatt for those nights. We are waitlisted at WL and GF for 11-14.
What should I do as a back-up? I check every morning for openings and feel we have some time but since this our first time waitlisting I need some advice.....

You would be better off waitlisting for larger hotel spots and ones more apt to open up- SSR is the largest resort and so it is most likely to open up although you are wanting the days during one of the busiest times of the year where many places were completely booked before the 7 month window.

I don't know what room size you are looking at but a 1 bedroom is the room size most likely to be able to be available.

If you really want to stay during that time I suggest making a cash reservation that you can cancel and keep checking for anything you are willing to take as far as a room is cincerned.

Unfortunately, I sense your chances are probably low of getting anything at WDW DVC resorts with points for that time period, and chances for a VGF or VWL 1BR are even lower than others (chances would likely increase somewhat if wait listing for SSR, OKW, BLT lake view, BWV pool/garden view, or AKV savanna view at Kidani since all of those have far more 1BRs than VGF and VWL). If a room is needed, you might want to start looking into cash options. I am not aware of the current cash cancellation policies.

I agree, your best chances would be to waitlist for OKW or SSR. If not both, I would change at least one of the waitlist to one of the bigger properties. I've yet to ever get into GFV at the 7 month window and I don't travel during holidays or busy times. Good luck

It's for a 1 BR not a studio and I did select lake view for VGF.

BLT theme park is another very low probability option since it also has a low number of rooms. Choose Lake View which is about 65% of all rooms at BLT.

yep, went with 1 BR Savanna at Kidani and 1 BR LV at BLT.
as we get closer I will prob book a mod just in case

Do you know the cancellation policy on a cash transaction??

I believe it is 5 days prior to the check-in date. When you make the cash reservation, it should state their cancellation policy there.

For cash rooms through Disney the policy is that you pay 1 night when you book and the rest when you check in. You can cancel up to 5 days out. Canceling later than that forfeits your 1 night deposit but you can change your dates to further out and then later call back and cancel.

As long as your passes are not tied to your room (part of a room package) then you don't have to worry about transferring them- until your second resort is linked you won't be able to make any changes between day 60 and day 30 but even if you cancel the FPs stay there you just can't make adjustments without a new room reservation linked.

If your tickets are not part of a package (they aren't included in the room you may cancel), then they are not tied to your room. If your waitlist comes through on day 35ish(example) and you cancel your cash room before linking up your DVC reservation- during the time no room is linked up your cannot change your FP+ reservations- they will not disappear you just can't change them. Once the new room is linked in you can change them as needed or after the 30 day period you can change them. Since I am assuming you would not cancel the cash without having a DVC reservation you are talking about a time period of maybe 10 minutes where you cannot change them- just long enough for you to cancel and the link a reservation.

can you let me know what you would do in this situation?
We are staying at the Hyatt and will be making trips to the parks Tuesday thru Thursday. Checking into WDW Thursday thru Sunday.

I would buy ticket separate from your hotel reservation- you can buy them from Disney or another place (undercover ticket is a place that sponsors the disboards). In MDE you have places to link tickets, dining, and hotel reservations. They can all be attached separately unless you buy your tickets as part of a room package.

If you make your cash reservations for on property and you also attach tickets in MDE you will be allowed to make FP reservations from 60 days out from your check in date. If your waitlist comes through and you cancel your hotel reservations you will have to change your attached hotel reservations. During the time you are making this change you FP+ choices will be frozen (you will not be able to make changes to them but they will not disappear). Since I am assuming you will only cancel the cash reservations once you have your DVC reservation you are only looking at a small time period- while you type in new reservation numbers and the program picks it up. If the change takes place within the 30 day period before you are going then you will see no effect. I would assume that not being able to make changes to the FP+ during the time you are attaching new hotel reservations really shouldn't matter since you are busy with that anyway.

To reserve at 60 days out you need:
1- Hotel Reservation
2- Tickets valid during the time you are visiting

If you cancel the tickets then your FP+ reservations disappear. If you cancel the hotel reservations(but not the tickets) with more than 30 days left before your visit your FP+ reservations are frozen until the first of either one of these- you attach a new hotel reservation for those days or you reach 30 days out from your off property stay (which comes in day by day).

Ok so I'll pash cash for a hotel just in case the wait list doesn't come thru.
I already linked our AP vouchers to MDE. We are w/in 60 days out so I should be able to make FP+ ressies due to the cash ressie.
If the wait list comes thru I will cancel the cash ressie and transfer the FP to my new ressie....
