Well it will soon be 180 days so we've started planning our meals. We've been 4 times before but never had the DDP, so I've been browsing all the menus for all the restaurants !!

DW and I like normal food, we're not real foodies so we've ruled out the 'posh nosh' places such as V & A , Narcocees etc.
DS (23) likes meat and chips, etc....
We are staying at SSR so the list is a bit DTD heavy as we can drive back from the parks and then walk across so we can have a few drinks too.

So far we have :

Crystal Palace for breakfast on the first morning as we'll be up early and it seems like a nice way to start.

Dinners :

Be our Guest
Turf Club
Rainforest Cafe
T Rex
Raglan Road
Sanaa
Yachstman Steakhouse
Mama Melrose (for Fantasmic package)

Possibles are :

Boma
ESPN Club
Chef Mickeys (dinner)
Beaches and Cream (dessert only OOP)

We are also up at HRH universal for 2 nights so will be doing City Walk for 2 or 3 nights.

Also fancy a night bowling so maybe do Splitsville dinner too.

Comments ?

You have some of the same ones as we hope to be going to I.e Be Our Guest and The yachtsman the only thing I would say is you have not got any Epcot places in your list such as Teppen Edo. Also Fultons in DTD is very good although it is a 2TS credit place.

Yeh, still musing over Epcot ! - Japanese doesn't appeal to us. Thought of Le Cellier but plumped for Yachstman instead. Maybe Chefs de France or Via Naploi or maybe San Angel. Nice to hear recent comments on any of them ......

Sounds fun. I've eaten at T. Rex and Rainforest Cafe when kids were younger and they loved the theming. The food is meh at both though. If you're not doing it for kids I'd definitely swap them for a couple of Epcot places. My two Epcot favourites are Teppan Edo and the Norway place (not for the Princesses!) I do love Le Cellier but not for two credits. I agree with your choice of the Yachtsman over that. The other great place you've missed is O'hana. Meat fest. Excellent value. Enjoy :)

I like your list.

Rainforest cafe is one of our favourites. T Rex not so good, but nice theming.

I would really recommend adding Boma to your definites list - we went there twice last trip because it was just sooooo good! Definitely one of the best meals we have had on property.

Oh and make sure you book BOG as your first reservation!

Frustratingly, my ADRs took all of five minutes last year but took 45 minutes this time plus a phone call to disney to delete the random ADRs it put on for tonight!!

My MDE app wouldn't work on either my iPhone or ipad, my laptop said the server was down whenever I tried to do a search and the only way I eventually got to make my ADRs was via Safari on the ipad. By that time, 3 of the times I had tried to pick for Cali Grill had gone. Incredibly frustrating.

Anyway, the point I'm making is if you're going for the real sought after restaurants, make sure you can access the site before trying to book :)

Wasn't sure about Boma.... I remember reading reports that it had gone downhill... Looked at Ohana but when I read the reviews/ pictures on here every review had the same food... I thought it was a buffet ??? Help !

I can't help with Ohana dinner I'm afraid :) but our Boma visits were last August and it was spectacular.

Via Napoli if you like pizza

Don't think you can book ESPN. For what sounds like you re taste the English pub might be worth a try

For meat and potatoes worth looking at libert tree tavern for one night in magic kingdom

Boma and Via Napoli are both great. We went to Boma last summer just because my DD loves their meatballs (DH and I were less impressed on a previous visit) but this time we all rated it one of our best meals - great choice, great quality food.

O'hana is not a buffet. You get gorgeous bread on arrival. Then salad. Then pork dumplings and chicken wings. Then they bring skewers of meat your table - they are chicken, pork loin, beef and prawns. This is accompanied by stir fry veg and noodles with peanut sauce and pineapple. You can have more of anything you want but the problem here is not getting too full before the skewers come out!!! Desert is O'hana bread pudding with bananas and caramel sauce and ice cream. It is my favourite meal anywhere.

tbh we'd never go to Boma's again as thought it was dreadful. But everybody has different experiences and different tastes. We did like Rainforest though and found the one at DTD better then Ak for some reason!
At the end of day you just have to go with what you fancy as like you said you don't like Japanese food, so there is no point doing Teppan Edo.:)

Ohana isn't a buffet it's family style.

It's all you can eat but a set menu served to you at your table.

Love breakfast at Ohana (only 29 days to wait :goodvibes ) however we really didn't enjoy dinner at all. Found all the meat tough and dry and IMO it all tasted the same. It was such a let down we won't even give it a second chance :scared1:

Just wanted to say Teppan Edo isn't what I considered Japanese really - it is grilled meat served with noodles, veggies & rice. Food is always excellent :thumbsup2 They do offer sushi & tempura as appetisers but wouldn't be covered on the DDP.

I would just agree. I really enjoy Teppan Edo. But it's very Weternised Japanese food. My DD is stupidly fussy and this is her favourite place.

Ohana Dinner is just a must-do for us. Food is great, and so it the atmosphere. DS loves the coconut race :)
We always end this meal by going down to the Poly Beach and watch Wishes from there.

Boma has left us unimpressed both times we did it.
Noisy and crowded. last time I even told DW that they should have Fastpass to access the buffet stands as there were so many people that we sometimes had over 8 or 9 people in line to get any item ... and we alway go at slow times ...
Tables are so close together, that I couldn't get up and squeeze between our table and the next table without bumping it hard, and the same went for the guest at the next table. We even joked about it through our meal, as both I and the other guest pretended to hold the plates down on our tables when one of us began to stand up to go to the buffet. If the guy at the next table had not been such a nice chap, this could have turned into a major inconvenience.

Food is good though, but the restaurant in itself is a place we now want to avoid.

La Hacienda San Angel was fabulous. We really enjoyed our meal there and thought the food was amazing. It wasn't fast so if you have plans, build extra time into your schedule for that meal, but it was totally worth it for us. We were lucky as although we didn't request a window seat we got one and as we were finishing our desserts, Illuminations started. The music and sound was piped into the restaurant and they dimmed the lights so we got a fantastic view of the show :)

We loved 'Ohana dinner - the atmosphere was great, a cocktail before dinner (lapu lapu) and the water pageant and Wishes from the beach.:)

The dessert was our favourite too!

We have not done Boma for 2 years so are looking forward to a return this year.

We have had two amazing meals at Rose and Crown in Epcot - and whilst not guaranteed (but highly likely as more outside seating) watching illuminations with dessert and a drink in hand is spectacular.

I always feel each restaurant has its own merits:

* Theme
* Location
* Food Quality
* Food selection/Choice
* Value for money

It is not possible for all restaurants to tick every box therefore getting a mix will ensure a balanced mix across your holiday - Buffets can offer a great choice but you don't want to do it everyday. For us BOG was amazingly themed but lacking in quality whereas Yak & Yeti was great food but the dining experience a bit dull.

We try to mix it up and ignore trying to get the most 'bang for your buck' some meals will be about the atmosphere or location - others about the food - just get a balance and it will be fine!

we did the DDP for the first time last year too and had some similar meals - really liked Boma although there seems to be mixed reviews on here. Great choice and the desserts were particularly good too!

'Ohana dinner was really great too! Loved going for a walk on the beach after to walk it off too, so much food!

Sanaa was really tasty but had a bit of a disappointing time that OH's chicken was still pink in the middle so he had to send it back, otherwise it would've been fab. Would still go back through

TRex was great too, food nothing special but I'm a dinosaur nut so that's why we enjoy it. Also had our first meal at Rose & Crown which was lovely too :goodvibes
