First Time use of Placeholder - Please help me understand

Hello DCL Fans. I am hoping you can help me make sense of recent placeholder reservation we used to book a cruise. This was done with a travel agent.
Details:
Disney Magic 5 night 8-31-25 thru 9-5-25 Port Canaveral - Oceanview Stateroom 2 people
Here is where I am lost and it pertains to the 10% discount and the $250 placeholder reservation.
Disney's Website for this sailing shows in Deck 2 for Oceanview this pricing:
Adult 1 $1,250
Adult 2 $1,250
Taxes $242.64
Total = $2,742,64

Here is how our reservation came out

Adult 1 $1,125
Adult 2 $1,125
Taxes $242.64
Total = $2,492.64

Ironically for this sailing what would be a 10% discount off of $2,500 (two regular fares ) would be $250 and the placeholder paid/ applied to the reservation would also be $250. While doing research on this I did check and see that these dates are not blockout dates for the discount. So can someone help me out here as to what I am missing ? To me it seems like just the placeholder deposit was applied to the reservation and not a 10% discount ? Am I missing something here ? I know it's now a lot but $250 could cover the rainforest room length of cruise pass.

You are seeing the total cost of the cruise.
The 250 is applied towards the deposit which will bring down what you owe.

Unless I am missing something only the $250 deposit was applied to the total cost and not a 10% discount applied to the total cost ? What is owed is $250 less than the total cost. By my calculations it should be $500 less than the total cost ?

You received the 10% discount off the 2 adult fares. Assuming your figures are accurate, the list price of $1250 per adult was discounted 10% to $1125. The taxes and fees are not discounted.

The $250 you paid for the placeholder is not a discount, it's essentially pre-paid deposit. So the breakdown you see is accurate. Your deposit will be $250 less because you already paid that amount.

If your travel agent sent you the confirmation from Disney Cruise, you should be able to see the Grand Total (total cost of the cruise) and the Balance Due (what you will owe by the final payment date). The 10% discount (in this case, $250) is reflected in the Grand Total. The $250 you have already paid should be reflected in the Balance Due.

The deposit (using the 50% off promotion) should be 10% of the cruise fare, not including taxes and fees. So, with the discounted fare, your deposit would be 10% of $2250, which is $225. You have already paid $250. So, you shouldn't have been charged any additional deposit, and your total Balance Due at final payment should be $2267.64 (that's the total fare minus payments, which is $2492.64 - $250).

Others already explained it but the main thing that I think it causing your disconnect is that the 10% placeholder discount doesn't apply to taxes and fees. So the $250 discount was on the $2500 total fare.

And the $250 placeholder will be applied to your deposit (or, since your deposit wouldn't even be that much, it'll be applied to your final balance due).

I think the deposit promotions are not stacked. It'll be 10% either way (with the placeholder or the 50% deposit promotion).

I was thinking the cruise booking would fall under the current reduced deposit offer for (almost) all cruise booking. The placeholder 10% deposit is valid only for cruises of 7 or more nights, so that wouldn’t apply anyhow.

For our Sept five night cruise, we did not get the reduced deposit with the placeholder because it did not stack with the current 50% off deposit promotion.

Ah. If that's the case, then the reservation mentioned above would have a deposit of 20% of the fare, so $450, and would need an additional payment of $200 now.

The reduced deposit for placeholders is only on cruises of 7+ nights.
Correct that the placeholder won't stack with any other promotion.
Since your cruise was <7 nights, you didn't get a reduced deposit but you did get the 10% discount.

I thought I read the half off deposit deal only applies to sailings of 7 or more nights. So, not a 5-night.

This is correct....The 10% comes off the cruise fare only, which totals $250 discount. Then the $250 you paid for the placeholder comes off the total balance due, so your balance due should be $2242.64.
Adult 1 $1,250 - 10% = $1125.00
Adult 2 $1,250 - 10% = $1125.00
Taxes $242.64................ $ 242.64
Total = $2,742,64..............$2492.64
Paid $ 250.00
Balance $2242.64

You don’t get “half off” the deposit. It’s just that you have pre-paid $250 of whatever it is for your cruise.

You kind of do, for longer sailings. On sailings of 7-nights or longer, you can do a 10% deposit instead of 20%.

A reduced deposit (10% instead of the typical 20%) is not an actual "savings". It simply means you play less upfront to hold the reservation. You still pay that additional amount in the balance due.

The 10% discount off fare is an actual discount, reducing how much you pay.
