First time trying to modify a reservation

I’ve seen lots of mentions about the dwarfs and reservations and I never completely understood it until last night.

I use my points to make a split stay at 11 months and tried to combine them at 7. I had to waitlist, but saw my room available, so I tried to modify. I couldn’t.

Twice.

Then, thinking it was a points issue or something, I canceled my original reservation and then tried to book it regularly. My room was gone, and so was the room I cancelled.

I waited a bit and just kept trying until the room I wanted became available.

So now I’m on hold with MS to combine my two reservations. Is this what you all mean? This happens often? Only with resale points? (Although pretty sure these were direct points I was trying to rebook.)

I think I understand why some people just pay cash. There’s no reason why making a reservation has to be so hard.

Oh my! Don't ever do that! You got lucky that you didn't lose the room. You run a high probably of it happening, especially when you do it right at 7 months.

I have only had the issue modifying a trip once. Got the dwarves, because it happened mid process, the system held that room in space for about 20 minutes before it released it back again.

I ended up having to chat and we got it done…as soon as I saw it, I chatted and they could do it when I could not.
