I've been at the Fort hundreds of times, but it's my first time there as a guest. I left Kissimmee for the grueling 15 minute ride Monday morning. I managed to do it without any breaks, what a trooper. I went to the front desk and checked in as I had plenty of time. Turns out the site was ready and I was able set up by mid morning. They gave me a nice site, #613, with a great water view and mostly MHs. It's across from where they have the nightly activities. It was pretty quiet during the week but it filled up by Friday. As I worked most of the days I was there, I wasn't able to do much during the day except ride my bike in the AM. Green ears were as scarce as black bears. The only green ears I saw were mine. Now that I've stayed there, it does live up to the hype. It's the best RV campground by far that we've been to. I'll be back on the fourth and, if there is availabilty, Labor Day too. It's of course, very clean and the sites are great. My only complaint is that the cable TV is lacking. Buddy the wonder dog wannabe has had a great time. The kids love him because they think he's a puppy, but he's not. Had a nice stay, but it's all over tomorrow morning. Unhook the utilities, pull in the slides, and make that grueling 15 minute ride back to the storage facility until the fourth.

Staying at the Fort while still working makes work more palpable. I did it for 4 months during the winter of 2002-03. Only....I made a grueling 75 mile each way trip to Tampa while the DH got to play at the Fort. Every night when I left work & hollered, "I'm going to Disney World!", I would get pelted with all kinds of stuff!!

I'm glad that after all these years working for the Mouse, you got to see it through "Fort Eyes"!

DH hopes you didn't suffer from fatigue, drive off the road and wreck the MH especially your new vinyl on the rear.......:rotfl:

I made it home ok, but it was tough. I'm going to take a nap.
As for the vinyl on the rear of the MH, it's not there. DW didn't go along with the idea.

Every once and while you need to be reminded of what Disney is all about. After a while you begin to think it's just a job. So while DW was off doing errands, I took the boat over to MK and just walked around. Although I drive out of there, I can't remember the last time I was there as a guest. Saw some of the street entertainment, looked at the new stuff going on, and got a sprinkling of pixie dust, it was starting to wear off. I am now once again re-energized and appreciate why people come to WDW.

Next time, don't push so hard to make it non stop. You are in a motor home, so pull over and rest...don't try to be a hero on that long a drive home. :rotfl2:

Wish I only had a 15 minutes drive. As you can tell, I love WDW. Just look at my graphics. Getting ready to put something on the large back window. It will look really cool and give privacy as well. Looking forward to moving to Florida in the future. Maybe a job at WDW is in my future.:mickeyjum:mickeyjum:mickeyjum

We love WDW too. And I get to see the warts. It's the only reason we ended up where we did. And hang on to that goal. It only took 23 years to finally do it. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the report! We will have our ears when we are there in Sept, I promise!

Wow, all the way from Minnie sota. What's that, a million miles or so?
Sheltie, I love the Collie breeds. We have a Border Collie grand dog. He is just the best dog. Let me know when you get to the fort in Sept. We'll be there for the Labor Day weekend.

I would LOVE to have a job as a fishing guide at Disney,,nothing would please me more than to say the words,

I hope to meet you one day soon at the Fort.

The next time ya'll take that long grueling trip to the Fort, may I suggest you pack sandmiches for the long haul,:lmao:

So glad you found the Fort to be as wonderful as we all believe it to be,:wizard:

That is not fair, your trip to the Fort is shorter then my fuel stops, not to mention the 15 hour drive. Anyway we will be there over the 4th also I'll have to get a sign made up not sure what loop but a premiun site I know that much, look for a large Ceadr Creek we will be representing the state of De.

I don't know exactly how far it is, but I really wish it was a lot closer!

Molly is a little sweetie pie. She's getting up there in age, so she doesn't have as much spunk as she used to but she is still smart as a whip.

We'll be arriving on Sept 23rd. I'll be keeping my eye out for you when we ride the bus!

I've finally found time to sit down and look up your trip report! Glad everything went well :thumbsup2 Too bad there weren't more green ears there. Maybe over the 4th. Were you able to fit your big rig into the site alright?

I'd love to move to Florida when I "retire" and work at DW as well - but it has to be somewhere air conditioned! I can do 40 below, but I can't handle the heat and humidity!

North Dakota,,ya'll don't even have enough summer to take off your sweaters there ,
do ya ??

Okay, what I really wanna know is , hows the fishing ?

The North Dakotans all come to Minnesota to fish. ;)

Pretty much! haha! Devil's Lake supposedly has great fishing, but when we went a few weeks ago, we didn't even get a bite! We prefer fishing in MN, although we thoroughly enjoyed fishing at The Fort in April.

I had forgotten about this thread and noticed it had moved up on the thread list. Nice to hear from you lathamary. Yes, I did manage to get my MH in the site. It was a great site.

Being from NH I know what you mean about the Florida weather, but we've adapted very well to the heat and humidity. We think of it as the worst part of the year which isn't all that bad.

I'm looking forward to next week, the 4th. Looks like they'll be at least 20 green ears at the Fort. Should be a lot of fun finding out who's who.
