My husband and I are headed Vegas in for his birthday in October.

First of all....it is his birthday & he is giving into me and we will be going to see Donny & Marie at the Flamingo.:lovestruc

This is our first trip Vegas and I am not sure where we should stay and would appreciate any other advice anyone would like to share. We will be there 3 nights and 4 days over Halloween weekend. Planning on seeing Donny & Marie on Friday evening and going to Hoover Dam Saturday or Sunday.

Where should we stay?
Caesars
Paris
Flamingo~this is where the show will be...

If you are not already a Total Rewards member, be sure to sign up as soon as you get to your Harrah's property.

Use your card any time you gamble, eat, buy show tickets, shop in the stores, etc. at a Harrah's property and you will earn comp points to use towards your room, food, etc. They can really add up fast.

Included properties are:

Harrah's
Imperial Palace
Bally's
Paris
Caesar's Palace
Paris
Rio

I am spending 9 free nights (3 in September, 3 in November and 3 in December) at Caesar's Palace in a deluxe Augustus tower room thanks to my Total Rewards card. My mom and I signed up for them during our stay at Harrah's in April. We used them every time we played the slots (we are penny slot junkies), ate dinner or bought something in the gift shop. Shortly after returning home the free room offers starting rolling in.

I voted for a stay at Caesar's but if you like seafood, be sure to go to the buffet at the Flamingo for awesome crab and shrimp!

I think Paris is a gorgeous hotel! Especially the casino. Can't speak for the rooms, though. We stayed at MGM Grand. Caesar's is a bit pricier, and we were not huge fans of their casino. Never even set foot in the Flamingo, so I can't really help you with that one.

We loved the Paris hotel. We stayed there in February. We loved everything about it. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Absolutely beautiful.

Caesars would be the fanciest, but I was not impressed with their casino or layout when I visited. I enjoyed visting Paris and had a wonderful breakfast their at the buffet. I also did well on the slots at Paris. It would be no problem at all to walk to the Flamingo from Paris for the Donny and Marie show.

If money isn't an issue then stay at Cesars. Paris was so neat to walk through, but I haven't seen the rooms. A co-worker told me the rooms were not that great.

I voted for Caesar's Palace...I've stayed at the Flamingo and wasn't impressed. I haven't been to Paris yet.

For my 30th next August we are planning on going to Vegas too, so I've been doing a lot of research! My top three are Paris, Planet Hollywood, and New York New York. From what I've heard, you want to be in the center of the strip, and Paris is the most centered. Just from looking at their website, Paris looks amazing! They all have their own uniquness to them, so you really just have to figure out what is for you, but for me, Paris is it! I can't wait to get a crepe from that stand! For deals, go on www.travelzoo.com but also check out expedia.com - they are the best from what I've found. Have a great time!!!!!

I voted for Flamingo - the GO rooms are really neat. We are total rewards members and haven't paid for a room in vegas for a few years now. Sometimes we stay at Harrahs - which isn't quite as nice as Flamigo but it's ok. We don't spend much time in the room anyway...

I've been wanting to stay at Paris one of these times but it just hasn't worked out yet. I hear that the rooms are nice there..

We love the Flamingo have always great stays there the pool is killer. My next choice would be Paris then Caesars.

Kae

We've stayed at all of those, and I prefer Paris. Caesar's would be a close second. The rooms at Paris are very large, with really nice bathrooms (whirlpool tubs!). Caesar's is almost TOO huge, in my opinion.

Flamingo can be hit or miss on the rooms. We had a really nice one once and one that needed some serious updating. They wouldn't move us either because the rodeo convention was in town and there were no more rooms. (I've never seen so many Wranglers jeans and belt buckles the size of hub caps in my life!)

Flamingo does have a nice pool, but the rest is just ok. All three hav a great location. Flamingo and Paris are close to each other on the same side of the street, and Caesar's is kind of across from Flamingo. All are mid-strip which is where you definitely want to be. :) Have a great trip!

By the way, if you do stay at Paris, ask for a "P" room, they are larger corner rooms with floor to ceiling windows. Amazing views of the strip! If you need restaurant suggestions, let me know, we've eaten all over. :rolleyes1

We just went last weekend for the first time and stayed at the Bellagio. We got a rate of $96 a night a few months back - too good to pass up. The site we used was www.broadwaybox.com they also sell discounted tix to shows on there. I think we just looked at the right time because people were shocked at our rate. Of your three choices, i would stay at Paris. Right across from bellagio - so right smack in the middle of the strip. Plus its gorgeous.

You can look up traveler reviews on www.tripadvisor.com

Have fun!

I've stayed at all 3 and I would pick Caesars by a long shot. I hated the room at Paris, even though it was a nice corner room. I like the resort though, but not as much as Caesars. I don't like anything about the Flamingo except for the location.

I've only stayed in the Augustus Tower at Caesars so I can't speak for the other rooms there.

I was just in Las Vegas last week and will be there again in October too.

Thank you for all of your thoughts and suggestions regarding our hotel choices...It is so difficult to decide! Maybe we should do a split stay?!:confused3?!?

We are Total Rewards members so I will see what the best offer each property will give us.

Since we will be seeing Donny & Marie....do you think it will be difficult if we choose to stay at a property other than the Flamingo?

Also, any thoughts on tours to Hoover Dam or even the Grand Canyon? Should we go with a tour group from Vegas or rent a car and head off on our own?

Thanks again and please keep your sharing your thoughts and experiences!

either Caesars or Paris. Both are fantastic! I love the theming at Paris, but Caesars has those amazing shops and their casino is nice.

Whatever you decide on where to stay, make sure that you do the lunch buffet at the Bellagio. It was the best advice given to me before I took my first trip there. I've been there 4 times now and have eaten there every time! It's amazing!!!! But go early. There is always a line!

I've gotten the best deals (especially at Paris) by joining their email list on their website. We paid $89 for the first 3 nights at Paris last time, (Tues, Wed, Thurs). The rate went up to $119 for Friday and Saturday, but it was still a good deal.

Seeing the show at the Flamingo would not be a problem no matter which one you stayed at. The Flamingo is maybe a 8-10 min. walk just north of Paris on the same side of the street, not a problem at all. If you stay at Caesar's, you are virtually across the street, although you cannot just "cross" the street on the strip. You have to walk up to the bridge and cross "over" the street for safety. It sounds weird, but it makes sense when you see it. As long as you are mid-strip you can walk to your show.

My husband and son went to the Hoover Dam tour through the hotel. They enjoyed it for the most part, they said it was REALLY hot there. The Grand Canyon is quite a drive from Las Vegas. We've never done it from Vegas, but I know of people who have rented a car and done it. I'm not sure exactly how long it would take you though.

We stay at different hotels from the shows we see all of the time. You can walk or take a cab; we enjoy walking if the weather is nice. Las Vegas also has the Deuce bus system which is very convenient and inexpensive. I'd skip the monorail unless you want to ride it for the experience and it's very inconvenient.

I've done Hoover Dam via a tour and on my own. If you drive out there, you will probably want to do a tour that takes you inside; there isn't much to see just walking around. I've also done Grand Canyon from Las Vegas. The drive from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon is not pleasant. The helicopter tour we did (just last week) was about $525 a person and it took us over the Hoover Dam for a great view on the way to the Grand Canyon. There are probably cheaper helicopter tours, idk, but the one we took actually dropped us down into the Canyon. I would not make that drive from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon ever again.

The concierge at the hotel will be able to provide you with various tours/alternatives and book them for you.

!

Yes! No matter where you stay, make sure you do the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace! Excellent shopping, and how many hotels can say they have a few hundred stores there? There is also a large mall at the Planet Hollywood hotel (formerly Aladdin) which is right next door to Paris, to the south. Lots of great shopping!

No problem at all. With the exception of the Rio, all of the Harrah's properties are clumped together in this order, from left to right when standing at Caesar's looking across the street:

Harrahs, Imperial Palace, Flamingo, Bally's and Paris. Across the street from them is Caesar's so it's a simple "commute" from any of the hotels.

I stayed at Paris once and while it was nice, I was not impressed with the room or the pool. Also, the casino was like a morgue: sooooooooo quiet and, um, boring :snooty:.

Good luck in deciding!
