Have been to WDW many times but never (in my 40 years) have I ever stayed on site! Just booked res at AKL - I think I got a great deal on a savannah view rm but wondering if the $49 rates at POP are a better bet....Please help me out! I know it's hard to compare two different levels of accom but does anyone have a basis of comparison for me?

(It's been 2 years since I've been on this board and I forgot just how helpful this site is!).:D

I think you made a great choice, having the animals there in the morning is great but the resort offers a wonder feel in the evenings, the food is perfect and the lobby is something you will not forget for a while....

Go and have a GREAT time!!!

If money isnt an issue, or much of one, you definitely have made the right choice. I stayed at AKL, not even in a view room, and loved it! :)

Welcome to the DIS!

How much time are you going to be spending in your room and/or the resort? If you are the "camando" type, and will basically sleep, then you may want to save money and go with Pop. If you like to go at a more lesiurly pace, then AKL may be more to your liking.

We like the deluxe resorts. We have a young child and like the full service resturants and beautiful pool area's that come with deluxes. We are generally done with the parks by 3 or so and like to spend the rest of the day swimming and relaxing around the resort.

I have never been to the POP but I have been to AKL and it is a beautiful resort! Make sure you spend some time checking out the detail...and looking for the hidden Mickey's..in the lobby.

It's so good to be back on this site! ;)
I think we've decided to splurge a little and go with AKL just for the little extras (queen and bunk beds, balcony, full service restaurant, large pool area).
Admittedly, I am usually the commando type mom but I'm hoping staying at a resort like this will give me reason to get back to the resort and enjoy it.

Here's another question: I've heard varying stories regarding the efficiency of the buses from AKL to the various parks. What have your experiences been and please give me an idea what time I need to board a bus to get to MK or EPCOT for EE? (Never having stayed onsite I've never been able to take advantage of EE before...I'm quite excited about it - this way we can hit SM & Buzz before the crowd hits!)

And lastly (totally not related to resorts) how do I get the info at the bottom of my posts indicating the countdown to my next trip?

We've stayed at AKL twice, last August and this August-September. The busses have been excellent; the longest we waited was about 15 minutes. When we stayed at the WL, the busses were very inefficient by comparison. It takes about 25 minutes to get from AKL to the MK...it's the longest bus trip you'll have from the AKL. I think it was about a 15-minute ride to Epcot. You'll love AKL, and I think you've made a great choice!
