Hi

We are planning on heading back to the happiest place on earth for the last 2 weeks of august 2016.This will be my 7th trip to Disney but first ever time staying on Disney property so want to get it right.

We are planning on staying in a 2bed villa at OKW as the grandparents are coming with us who are in their mid to late 60's and along with our son who will be 6, so space is very important to us and somewhere we can chill out during the afternoon to take a rest from the hot august sun.

Our other option was SSR and i liked the look of the facilities and pools more but felt the rooms were alot smaller, the grandparents also prefer the look of the 2bed at OKW as are used to staying in a 4 bed house when staying in orlando. Also we were not planning on hiring a car this time and was just going to use Disney transport

We are also taking advantage of the free Disney dining plan while we are there and i realise their isnt much choice at OKW. I have looked at many of the positives and negatives of each resort on different forums but wondered if any Disney resort veterans had any more views or opinions?

This will probably be our last trip for a very long time and possibly last as a family so want to make sure it is as magical as possible.

We stayed in a 2BR villa at Old Key West this past February with our son, two grandsons, and my two sisters. The villa was great for our group. We had plenty of space and the big living room gave us plenty of common space to gather and visit. We would make breakfast every morning in the villa and eat out for lunch and dinner. The boat to DTD is very convenient and a nice way to avoid buses. The full size washer and dryer was great, too, especially when we had rainy weather and needed to dry some wet clothes and shoes. We loved the size and layout of the villa and would definitely stay there again with the same kind of group.

As far as the park buses go, for the most part they came regularly and we seldom had to wait more than ten minutes for a bus. The down side was that the route that the buses took. OKW is laid out with dead end streets so the buses have to go down each road, turn around and then go down the next. I think it took about 15 minutes to navigate all the interior bus stops. But other than that, we really liked the resort. :)

It looks like you've done your research. I just had a 5 day stay at OKW last month. My biggest issue was the long time on the buses. If you're in the middle of the route, it seems like forever to get there...coming and going!! It's a terrific resort if you have a car. If you rely on the buses, be sure to leave time to get off resort property.
The only other issue I had was one of noise from the unit next door. But, we were in a studio, with the one bedroom next door. You won't have that issue....since you'll be in both units!!!

Thanks guys im sold :earsboy: will be booking tonight. I had a little nose at car hire prices so think i might factor this in to the cost of the holiday as it wasnt anywhere near as expensive as i thought. That way we have both options for transport.

In an ideal world i would of loved to of stayed at the poly, or GF in a suite but is out of our price range but i like the style of OKW and love that we can catch the boat to downtown disney.
