We are hoping beyond hope she goes into remission. We booked a trip with our dvc points as a surprise gift to her, her dh, her son and her mother. We booked the trip for August. They will be in a 1br at AKL Kidani Village. We have dinner booked for their arrival at Senaa, then the next day bfast at chef mickey and dinner at crystal palace, then day 2 at animal kingdom park dinner at tusker house, day 3 epcot with dinner at San Angel rest.Day 4 late lunch at hollywood and vine. then day 5 bfast at whispering canyon cafe and late afternoon departure.

Is there anything you can think of that I can do for her/her family as far as making it easier on her. Even with being in remission, I hope, I don't want her to stress on anything. Do they do medical fastpasses for those with luekemia, is there a way to get something showing she can't stand in the heat for long? I don't know if she will need a wheel chair but if she does, where can I get one for her. Thank you. I am sure I will have many more ?????s

What you are doing is very wonderful.

More than likely she should use either a wheelchair or an ECV. There is no such thing as a "medical fastpass"

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #2 discusses mobility and stamina problems, and lists offsite locations where people regularly rent wheelchairs or ECVs. Also, Post 6 describes the Guest Assistance Card, which is probably what you were thinking about when you said medical fastpass. The GAC specifically states on it that it is not intended to bypass lines or shorten wait times.

I would go to Guest Relations and explain the situation to them. They would be the best people to help. As for wheelchairs, you will be able to get them in the front of the parks. There are normally courtesy wheelchairs around the buses drop-off points that can be used to get to the front of the parks as well.

I would rent her a wheelchair from an off site company and have it delivered to the resort. They can then pick it up or have it delivered to the room. By renting one for them for the length of stay it will be cheaper than at Disney and she will have it the whole time.

If they are not having a car onsite, can you do a little grocery delivery ahead of time, like Garden Grocer etc?

Also maybe give her a little goody bag to take including misty fan etc.

I usually just ask for the complimentary wheelchair from the hotel. Do they do that at DVC too, I dont knowl.. If she needs an extra wide one, ask ahead and put it on the reservation too.

I think hydration would be a big issue. August can be brutal.

I think what you are doing is wonderful, kind and thoughtful. I am recovering from cancer surgery too and had 7 operations last year. I finally got to disney with my dh in december. My ds are disneyed out and older.

The only issue with just trying to get a wheelchair from the resort, is you do not know what shape it will be in or whether there will be one available. Those are on a first come, first serve basis and are really only intended for emergency situations and used only at the resort. They aren't supposed to be taken to the parks.

When you rent from an off site place, you know what kind of wheelchair you will get and that it will be in good working order. It has been reported that many times the ones at the resort is either not the right size or is in bad shape.

Bless you for helping your friend. I would probably also see if you can talk to someone from the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society- they may be able to give you some ideas of things that you would want to consider to help her.

We are also dealing with our DD (31) who has ALL and is undergoing a BMT in May- praying that she will be well enough to do a trip to WDW at Christmas-which is her wish. Definitely consider wheelchair. I know there are wonderful accomodations at WDW for people with any health issues. Funny that you should say they are staying at Animal Kingdom-when my SIL was here this morning they were looking through my DVC Vacation planner- and he said we should get a 2 BR at Kidani Village when we all go...
