We're flying into Orlando for our Disney trip in a few weeks. It will be my kids' first time on the plane..... adults' first time since before 9/11. I know that many things are different now. Can you give me the best advice that I need to know before flying again?! :confused3

Read the thread above "A Newbie's Guide to Orlando International Airport"

Read what is allowed on carry on bags (ie liquids in ziplock bag)

The above are the two most important things.

Bring some items for the kids to keep them occupied.

Bring along some favorite snacks, as long as they are not liquid. We brought fruit.

If they are infants, take a sippy cup to drink during landing and taking off; helps with their ears. For older children, keep some gum handy.

Don't be nervous; if you are, it will translate to your kids. Be upbeat and excited.

Get them familiar with having to take off their shoes, etc. Some kids are really frightened by watching their shoes go off through the scanner, not knowing where they are going.

Be organized, remember you are surrounded by people who are very used to flying multiple times. Have i.d. and boarding pass ready at security; be ready to remove shoes and put everything into the bin. Carry very little in your pockets; less to have to place in the bin. When boarding the plane, stow items quickly so you are not blocking the aisles. Let your children know they need to be patient and wait to get out any toys, books, etc. until after you take-off.

And enjoy the ride; you are on your way to Disney!

Keep metal to a minimum on your person.. As far as belts / buckles etc etc.. Since I only fly for pleasure, I almost always have sweats on, with shorts on underneath, sneakers and a t-shirt. no change in my pockets, and my glasses and wedding ring. That's it.. I see people going thru with so much metal on their clothes I just shake my head. Or the boots that take 5 minutes to take off and put back on... :rotfl2:

The liquid thing as stated above is really the only biggie to watch out for..

Great tips, thanks! My kids are old enough to not be worried about security checks, thankfully.

Do the kids need ID too, or just adults???

No one under 18 needs ID unless they are a lap child on on an age-restricted fare (which is extremely rare.)
