First time in the world oct. 2014

Bummer! Guess the only day we will see each other is MNSSHP, but that's ok! It will be fun!

well, we are planning on hopping around some so you never know ;). Did you get your MNSSHP tickets? I have got to figure out costumes!!! We are gonna do fairies because the girls have really great wings. Last night I suggested to my hubs that I could be Wendy and he could be Peter Pan, then Frank could be Capt Hook....... he said NO!!! So I suggested that the men could just be pirate:. We shall see....

:cool1: :woohoo:

You got your tickets!!!!! I am SOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!

and a night at AoA!!!! the more and more i am looking at pictures and videos the more and more i am loving this resort!!!

it's no Buisness resort but i think we will make do... ;)

I think you will be just fine without the business class!!! :rotfl2: If it weren't for those small beds we probably would've chosen AoA a long time ago!!!! I love the theming.....but at least we will get to check it out for a little bit!! :goodvibes

Yes we will be practically perfect in every way!

I really can't wait to read about your trip!

Today we decided to do a road trip to Amish country. The Amish live in central Ohio, very religious and still use horse and buggies. No electric, nothing motorized and they only go to school until 8th grade. They farm, sew, do carpentry, bake.......self-suffiencent They call us the English, even if your from an ethnical back ground. If your not Amish your English....lol So it's like a trip back in time.

(Amish farm)

Oh yea no pictures they think it steals there soul or something. They drive around in buggies and use horses for all the hard work even to pull the hay rolling wagons, that's something we got to see a couple years ago. I just love to go to Berlin, Ohio and see them. But I really love this big Amish restaurant called The Amish door. It's manned by English or Mennanite's they are like the Amish but they can use mechanical things, drive stuff like that but still dress old fashioned and very religious. So we went to the Amish door for lunch. It's a buffet place but the food is all cooked by Amish ladies.

wedding coach)

choice of fried chicken, ham or roast......I got the chicken yummy

lots of sides and stuff

and cake for dessert

Then around back they have the best bakery......

they make everything even their own peanut butter, they mix it with honey so they can pour it...lol And their baked goods are to die for, yummy.
More next post

They also have a small gift shop.

These little figures are dressed like the Amish.....

Amish Buggy

We had a great meal and had to roll ourselves out of there but yes we took home some baked goods for the next day.....Yummy and huge!!!!

weather was in the 70s and nice out just enough clouds we didn't need sun glasses.....:dance3:
If the Amish need to go some where far away, like to visit family, they hire a mennenite or English person to drive them. You may have seen the show Amish Mafia on discovery channel. They film in Holmes county ohio. That is where the Amish Door is Holmes county....lol But we have never seen anyone from that show while visiting Berlin.

Oh man, that bakery looks amazing!! I just bet it all tastes wonderful!

I find the Amish culture very fascinating! Looks like you guys had a lovely trip! :goodvibes

How ironic that you visited the Amish country in Ohio and posted this now

My favorite books to read are about the Amish I get so into the stories I just get transported right into that world Yesterday I just purchased a lot of 6 books on eBay, which started Fred & I talking about the times we would go to Lancaster County in PA

I still say the best sleep I ever had in my life was when we would stay there in an authentic B & B The quietest place on earth and you fall asleep to the sounds of an occasional horse & buggy going by with the soft clip-clop of horse hooves It made me smile when I would picture perhaps a courting couple returning from a barn sing a long or some other innocent " date "

We purchased a wedding ring quilt in 1986 from a woman ( not in a shop but by following hand painted signs to her home ) and except for being a little faded after decades of washing/drying it still looks pretty good Talk about being well made :)

I really have to investigate where in FL there is a similar community I believe Sarasota Their food is really comfort food isn't it ? Thanks for sharing and opening up some wonderful memories for us :goodvibes

Hey Trish and Raina.:wave2:

It's been a while, but I'm trying to get caught up on everyone's report. I'm glad you were able to switch resorts and get the free dining. It's such a plus to have the meals paid for in advance. CSR looks like a great resort!

The Amish Door is about an hour away from us and a favorite place to go. We order a meal, which comes with the salad bar, then box the meal up for home and just do the salad bar. It is only about $2 more for the complete meal. I agree their food is the best. I've never had anything that wasn't good.

We usually go to Sugarcreek instead of Berlin, but when people come to visit from out of state, we try to take them to both. Have you ever been to Lehman's Hardware? Or Heini's Cheese? Lots of fun there! Next time you come out to Amish country, let me know and maybe we could meet at the Amish Door and have lunch. I'd love to meet you before you move to North Carolina!

Will you take pictures of the Fairy Garden? I'd love to see what one looks like. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Well, have a great weekend and both of you have a wonderful Mother's Day. Maybe next Mother's day you'll be living just minutes away from Raina!

Me too, we hired a guy to take us out in his buggy all day last year for my birthday. He even brought a picnic lunch. He told us all the Amish gossip it was great!

WOW didn't know you were so close, we are temporarily living in Wooster. Are you near there? would love to get together. And yes I have been to sugar creek, prefure the Berlin one. Lemans is great I can spend hours in there. The cheese factory is a lot of fun, too.

The guy we road with had a heart attack a few years ago and can not work so their church gave him special permission to take people out in his buggy. They can not ask for pay only tips so we asked how much of a tip would he take to give us an all day ride out in the country side so we could see thier homes and such. We made a deal for the following Saturday and he took us all around told us who lived where. Who barrowed money from the church. And even who had been excommunicated and for what........lol Once he got to talking he just kept spilling the beans....maybe he doesn't have a lot of people talk to him, just lonely but it was educational for sure. :cool1:

Oh the poor Amish fellow ( don't think I ever used that term in my life but it seems to be appropriate re- him :) ) I'll bet that's what it was Lonely Win -Win for all of you I was correct about Sarasota, FL seems to me it is always referred to in my reading as to be " the place" that Amish people vacation Someday I'll get there but it is very far away from me about 100 miles

sidenote: if anyone wants to friend me on fb send me a pm. I am on that site all the time (way more than I should be....:rotfl2:)

Raina your fairy garden came out so cute I had share, the little princess are really cute. Just love pics and all.....:)

I'm leaving tomorrow for Colorado, but when I get back, I'll PM you so we can figure out a day we can meet. We're about 45 minutes from Wooster!

Thanks for posting the pics of the fairy garden. Looks like a fun project for sure. I may have to steal that and make one with Charlotte and Caroline during my visit. Except it was snowing there yesterday when Emily called. Really? But that's not so unusual for Colorado I guess.

Have a great week!!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! the fairy garden is WAY TOO CUTE!!! so adorable!!!

Amish- they scare the living bejesus out of me. i've seen children of the corn..
buy honestly their puppy mills and the way they treat their horses are unethical.
We also have an Amish farm in Indiana which on the show Breaking Amish were a couple from this place. i've been there once. more touristy then anything like you said their food is AMAZING the craft is out of this world. yet i can't get past the way they treat animals... :sad1:

are you abot to have an epic dis meet with Lois?!?!? Well color me JEALOUS!!!!

Yes a lot of them do treat their animals bad. I see several under nourished horses pulling wagons. But some take good care of their horses. Seems like they would take better care of them knowing their livelihood depends on their animals:confused3
