Tell me everything I need to know - LOL..

I booked today for April 2 - 5 and was given a preferred room..

I will be needing one-way transportation from the airport to POP..

I'm traveling alone (or at least it looks that way at this point) so I should be able to get quite a bit done in the amount of time there..

Tell me anything you can think of: Bus service; food; beds; check-in waits; bus stops; and whatever else you can tell me..

How much do I tip for Mousekeeping?

Will they give me any kind of maps of the resort areas?

What all is down in the food court? Microwaves? Toasters?

What kind of beverages can you get in the refillable mugs?

Can you grab a bite to eat late at night?

Can all food bought in the food court be brought back up to your room?

How do I go about dropping off my luggage at POP and not checking in until I get back from MK? I don't think I'll get to POP until about 6 or 6:30 in the evening and from what I understand, MK is open till 11 p.m. that night..

Can I buy my park pass at the Disney store in the Orlando airport?

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and plain old answers would be greatly appreciated!

Alright let me see what I can answer.

Mousekeeping- We tip $1 per person, per day

Maps- They will give you a map of Pop. I'm not sure if they have maps of the other resorts. You will get a directory for how Disney transportation works

There is a microwave and toaster at the Pop food court. Beverages for the mugs are: Coke products, coffee and tea (I think). Someone mentioned a Frozen Coke machine but I don't remember seeing that. Not sure what else is there.

Yes, you can get food items to go and take them back to your rooms. They have trays to carry the food on. The food court is open until 11pm at least.

You can buy passes at the Disney Store at MCO.

Pop is a great resort. We stayed there last year. I loved the theming.

Check out all of the info on the main page of the dis under POP. There should be a map of the property a FAQ section, and lots of pictures. This will get you started. When you arrive, check in at the front desk. If your room isn't ready they will hold your bags, giving you a claim ticket and you can head to the park. Your room will be ready when you get back, and usually you can then just call for your bags (although I'm not sure if Value resorts have delivery). The resort front desk can provide you with all of the maps of parks and hours for pools and food courts. Food court will have microwave and toasters. Refillable mugs for a wide variety of soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate. Yes, anything in food court can go to room, and I know once at all stars I had pizza delivered. I usually purchase tickets at a discount from ticketmania.com and have them delivered to the resort before we arrive. You could also purchase at the airport, or your local disney store. I'm not sure what I forgot, but feel free to ask. I don't have any POP experience yet, but many of the resorts work similarly. Have a great time. I did a solo trip once and it was a blast. I got to choose all of MY favorites!!!

Thanks! I'm going to work myself into a panic before I even get there - LOL..

I understand that Nescafe is "the" coffee of WDW now.. PLEASE tell me it's not "instant"??????????

How is the hot chocolate? Pretty decent?

Dh hates the coffee at WDW (with the exception of the ones served at Boma and Kona Cafe). I suspect it is probably instant.

I don't care for the hot chocolate. It's made with water. I prefer it made with milk. I have heard others say it's good though. LOL I am picky about hot chocolate I guess.

:rotfl:
It's Nescafe - and it's terrible...atleast we think so!

Kona Cafe at the Polynesian has delicious coffee. It's not Nescafe!

But if you like cheesecake, the food court at POP has a delicious tye-dyed one. It's fun to look at and delicious to eat.

I really enjoyed POP in Jan. 2003. I did a solo trip and decided to give it a try. It's such a fun resort - lots to look at.

We're staying there for a couple of nights next week on our Easter trip. It will be my kids first time staying there. They're excited to see what it's like.

Can you use the microwave and toaster for food you bought at a grocery store? Is this allowed??
thanks Diane

Hi All! Hope you don't mind me jumping in but as another solo traveller who stayed at Pop already and thinks he tipped wrong. Two questions:
(1) When you tip Mousekeeping, do you tip daily or at the end of your stay?
(2) As I am one person, a $1 tip seems kinda low? What do people think is good for a single tripper to leave?

To try to help with the original poster, I took food back from the food court to my room often. I also saw people using the Micros for food they brought in. I will also add a vote for the Tie Dye Cheesecake as a must do, but even moreso the Twinkie Tiramsu... soooo fun and sooo good!

The coffee is not instant, but IMHO it's not good either. Each day we had to buy a "real" cup in the parks! :rolleyes2

It's allowed.

I tip daily. I'd be afraid it would be a different housekeeper at the end of my stay.

Since you're going by youself, then I would tip $2 per day. But if they didn't do an excellent job, then maybe $1 would be fine, it does sound kind of low, but there's only you in the room.

I'D EITHER USE MEARS OR A TAXICAB. MEARS WOULD BE CHEAPER THAN A CAB BUT A CAB IS MORE FLEXIBLE (YOU WON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO ARRIVE BECAUSE IT WILL ALREADY BE THERE).

I'm traveling alone (or at least it looks that way at this point) so I should be able to get quite a bit done in the amount of time there..
I TRAVELED ALONE TO WDW TWICE LAST YEAR. IT WAS GREAT FUN. ENJOY YOURSELF.

Tell me anything you can think of: Bus service; food; beds; check-in waits; bus stops; and whatever else you can tell me..
BUS SERVICE WAS FINE. BEDS WERE FINE. CHECK-IN FOR MY FAMILY WAS ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES (WE CHECKED IN JUST ABOUT AT MIDNIGHT).

How much do I tip for Mousekeeping?
WE TIP ACCORDING TO OUR ROOM (THAT IS, IF WE HAVE A DELUXE ROOM, A SUITE, OR A VILLA, WE TIP MORE BECAUSE THE ROOM IS MUCH LARGER). WE NEVER TIP LESS THAN $5 A DAY FOR HOUSEKEEPING (AND $5 A NIGHT FOR TURNDOWN SERVICE IF WE'RE IN A DELUXE RESORT).

Will they give me any kind of maps of the resort areas?
THEY'LL GIVE YOU ANYTHING THAT YOUR HEART DESIRES (AS LONG AS IT'S LEGAL, THAT IS ;)). THEY WILL DEFINITELY GIVE YOU A MAP OF THE RESORT. THEY ALSO SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU A MAP OF THE WDW PROPERTY (YOU MIGHT HAVE TO ASK FOR THAT ONE).

What all is down in the food court? Microwaves? Toasters?
LOTS OF YUMMY FOOD AND BEVERAGES.

What kind of beverages can you get in the refillable mugs?
SOFT DRINKS, COFFEE, WATER, ETC.

Can you grab a bite to eat late at night?
I BELIEVE THE FOOD COURT CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT.

Can all food bought in the food court be brought back up to your room?
YES, YOU MAY BRING YOUR FOOD ITEMS BACK TO YOUR ROOM TO ENJOY AT YOUR LEISURE.

How do I go about dropping off my luggage at POP and not checking in until I get back from MK? I don't think I'll get to POP until about 6 or 6:30 in the evening and from what I understand, MK is open till 11 p.m. that night..
YOU GIVE YOUR LUGGAGE TO THE LUGGAGE ASSISTANCE FOLKS AND ASK THAT IT BE STORED UNTIL YOU CAN CHECK-IN TO YOUR RESORT ROOM. THEY WILL GIVE YOU LUGGAGE TAGS IN RETURN (ONE FOR EACH PIECE OF LUGGAGE).

Can I buy my park pass at the Disney store in the Orlando airport?
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS ONE BUT HAVE READ IN THE PAST THAT IT WAS POSSIBLE (JUST NOT SURE IF IT STILL IS -- YOU CAN CALL THE STORE AND ASK, THOUGH).

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and plain old answers would be greatly appreciated!
MY FAMILY REALLY ENJOYED OUR POP CENTURY STAY LAST YEAR. CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS OF OUR POP CENTURY ROOM.

HAVE A MAGICAL, MAGICAL VACATION!

Have you looked into the new magical express? Not sure if it applies to your tracels but it might be something you would want to look into.

You've gotten some great responses, but since I love Pop so much I thought I'd add my 2 cents - another perspective is always good!

Prefered rooms are great - I usually go for the 50's myself (the 60's are the prefered rooms), but if cash isn't an issue it's a great option.

Mears is probably your best bet (less than $20), but if you have the cash a town car would run you $50-60 and you wouldn't have to wait (it's really cool to see a driver with a sign with your name on it!). Taxi's aren't really any cheaper than town cars, so I'd either choose the latter or Mears.

Good for you! Although it's always great to share the magic, there is nothing like being a bit selfish and indulging yourself in the ultimate Disney fantasy - the whole place any way you want it!

For my experiences staying solo at Pop, see the link in my signature. I have found that many solo travelers prefer Pop because of the superior bus service and the atmosphere. And the staff was so friendly I couldn't believe it - even for Disney standards!

Bus Service is great - unlike the All Stars, Pop always has it's own dedicated line. The only time service can be hairy is coming back from the MK at closing time. You will often see the Pop waiting area have more people than any of the others. Don't fret, because when this happens they send multiple busses at once.

I've found that I like to avoid it almost totally, so I either get out there a few minutes BEFORE closing so I get on an early bus, OR I wait it out, either in the park or on the great benches in the bus waiting area. Main Street stays open at least an hour after offical park closing (you can shop, eat, etc.) so there is no rush out of the park. As a solo traveler, you won't have to worry about everyone being tired, etc. - just chill out and enjoy how magical the MK is after dark.

Food at Pop is good counter service, with a few additions. I always found the burgers/chicken fingers/etc. just great and freshly made - they also have pizza and such.

This is going to depend on a lot. Best to take others advice on this one, as I'm not the best at this. However, keep in mind that cleaning a room with one person staying in it (unless you are a total pig! :) ) is a lot easier than four, so tip accordingly. I know some people tip by the day, some by the week.

Yes, a beautiful full-color map. You can also see one before hand at this map here at DIS .

C.Ann said:

Sort of described earlier as to the food - and yes there are micros and toasters I believe.

C.Ann said:

Everything! Most Coke products, lemonaide, coffee, etc. I only drink diet coke there, but I've been told they do rotate the other drinks. You can always count on Cola and Coffee though.

Can you grab a bite to eat late at night?

Last I knew they closed at midnight, and much of the hot food service is done by 11PM. I keep hoping this will change with the new EMH's at night. During MNSSHP's last year I made sure I ate at the park since the resort food would be closed when I got back. I'm not a big chip person, but I did buy a large bag of doritos at the food court and kept it in my room if I got late-night munchie attacks. I think it was like $2.79 for a very large bag - I ended up taking much of it home.

C.Ann said:

Yup, they were very helpful in this area. Tell them it's to-go, and they will give you extra containers/etc. to get it up there. I did this several times.

If you are coming that late, best bet is check in upon arrival. You don't want to be checking in at 11PM when most of the rooms are gone. Just dump your bags in your room and head out. Unpack when you get back. You will have it out of the way and be able to enjoy the MK without that monkey on your back.

You can, but again - best to do this before hand. Do you really wanna be schleping the airport getting your bags and then getting to the Disney store and all that? Buy them online before you go through Disney - you get a discount to boot. Then you can just check-in, drop off your bags, get on a bus, and walk straight up to the turnstyles.

Just have a wonderful time! Take care of everything ahead of time you can, and then just relax and enjoy the ride (pun intended!).

Good luck!

N.E.D.

When I checked in at Pop in late Jan., they gave everybody a welcome packet that had among other things guide maps for all 4 parks and 1 for dtd. Also, btw, on back of the Pop resort map is a map of the full WDW property.

I missed the question earlier about the Pop Food Court Hours...
I believe the hours are 6am to 2am... as I remember being there real late one night after going to DTD and seeing an 11pm movie at AMC.

But i could be wrong! hehe
Mike

HEY! We'll be arriving at the Pop on the 5th! Just gonna miss you! Bummer!

I will be at pop from the 1-8. My first trip so excited on a countdown.
