First time flying with Southwest - Is this a decent boarding group?

I am flying with my 2 kids (ages 13 & 7) and my friend and her 4 kids (ages 17, 15, 12 & 2).

We have a non-stop flight from Rochester to Orlando tomorrow at 2:50pm. I checked in right at 2:50pm today and got A58, A59, A60 for myself and my two kids and B01, B02, B03, B04, B05 for my friend and her four kids.

We've never flown Southwest before and so this boarding procedure is new to us. Are these decent boarding numbers? I believe my friend will get to board earlier because of her 2 year old but if not, do we stand a reasonable chance of getting seats together, at least so no one is left sitting alone?

I believe there will be people already on the plane too as this will be a stop on the way to Orlando for others coming from another airport.

Thanks in advance!

On 8/25 we took the 2:50pm flight out of Rochester to Orlando on a connecting flight from Chicago. We got the same A50's that your family got and we felt like we had an awesome boarding number because we were able to get in row 7 and 8 as a family of five. I was nervous as it was my first Southwest flight but it was not full and we had an extra seat in our aisle. I do not recall any announcements for family boarding at the airport but I could have missed it being so nervous about boarding. Good luck.

Family boarding is between groups A & B so you will board before your friend. I suspect they will not let her older children board with her at family boarding. If I were you I would head to the back of the plane. Have her board with the youngest during family boarding and then the other three follow after. You should all get seat near each other.

You are at the very end of the "A" board group.. the A group is A1 - A60. So your friend will board right after you with her 2 yr old. :thumbsup2

The only way there will already be people on the plan before they allow the A board group to board, is if the people on the arriving flight are also going on to the next city with you.

Shame that SW bought AirTran -/you would not have this stress! This is why prices for travel out of Rochester are now higher than before.
