First time ever to a Red Lobster tonight... what's good?

I'm surprised to see all the mediocre reviews! I'm from New Orleans, so super-used to great seafood, and I'm a HUGE Red Lobster fan! Maybe it's a regional thing--restaurants in known seafood areas have access to better quality ingredients/more skill in cooking seafood? Don't know, it's just a theory.

Anyway, I love pretty much their entire menu. But what we often end up doing is splitting the Ultimate Feast. It's 1/2 pound of snow crab legs, a Maine lobster tail, and an assortment of fried shrimp and shrimp scampi. Plus a salad (I recommend the balsamic vinaigrette dressing with baby shrimp), a side item (I'm partial to the loaded baked potato) and unlimited cheddar biscuits. Easily enough for two unless you have huge appetites.

Sigh. Now I'm craving seafood. Do share your observations!

After the biscuits, it's all downhill. The one restaurant we will never eat at again. Middletown, NY Red Lobster is horrible so is the one in Roxbury, NJ. They don't get 3 strikes your out

I just went to the website.... I was actually hoping the salad was unlimited.... like at Olive Garden.

Just pretend the bisquits are salad. Just not as healthy for ya.

My personal fav's:

Pecan-Crusted Jumbo Shrimp - Two skewers of wood-grilled jumbo shrimp with a maple-cherry glaze and a toasted pecan-crumb topping, over wild rice pilaf.

Shrimp Linguini Alfredo - Tender shrimp tossed in a garlic Parmesan cream sauce on a bed of linguini.

But if we were going tonight (thursday) - it would have to be their special of the night: Shrimp Lover's Monday and Tuesday - Choose from fried shrimp, scampi, coconut shrimp bites or popcorn shrimp.

I hate seafood, won't touch the stuff for anything, but I will go to Red Lobster just for the biscuts. I always order a steak, but have yet to have a good steak there, usually they are overcooked and tough. I have decided that next time we go (I go for my DH) I am just going to order a salad and fill up on the biscuts.

Everyone who raves about the biscuits, the recipe is on most Bisquick boxes. It calls for dried parsley, but works better with fresh, otherwise it is spot on!

I like their fried shrimp and shrimp scampi, but lately, I've been splitting that ultimate feast with one of my sons. Seriously, that is enough food for two hungry people.

My kids picked to go to Red Lobster a few weeks ago for DS5's birthday.

My two younger kids had a lobster soup at Coral Reef during our last Disney trip and they both ordered the lobster bisque at Red Lobster. They both took one bite, looked at me and said "Mommy, this is NOT as good as the lobster soup we had at Disney". :upsidedow

On a positive note, my DD12 who has always refused to taste salad dressing has now been bringing salad in her lunch to school every day since ordering a caesar salad there.

Honestly, I could probably make a meal of just the biscuits. They're really salty and cheesy and yummy.

So, wait, is it just the biscuits that are unlimited> Or is it the salad too? As good as the biscuits might be, I am diabetic, so I won't have more than a bite. But if it is also unlimited salad, then I'll be happy as a clam. :)

No unlimited salad.

I enjoy the Ultimate feast :). They have good shrimp scampi, crab alfredo, crab legs, lobster bisque, clam chowder. The cheddar bisuits are okay, but not worth the calories. One is plenty!

For awhile there, we stopped going due to an issue with their fried foods. It all just tasted bad. The fries, shrimp, fish, clams - all had a funky taste. The mom of one of DS friends works there and we said something to her the one night and she said we weren't the only ones to say something. Said they had changed the oil and did a service call on the friers, but they still were getting complaints.

We have since then started gong back, but we have stayed away, for the most part, anything fried. She was there the last time we were in and she said it was better, but there was still something to her that tasted off. So, I have no clue what the issue was/is at our RL. But as long as we stay off the fried menu, we are all good.

Or you can always order the App sampler platter and get chicken fingers and motz sticks for something a bit more. DS won't touch seafood with a 10 foot pole and I won't spend the crazy amount they want for a bad steak, so this is his dinner selection.

The lobster mashed potatoes and the cheddar bay biscuits... I'm on my way... :car:

Three words:

Cheddar. Bay. Biscuits. - Yes, yes, yes!

Good = Taste - oh so yummy.
Not good for your waistline. - Have them anyway. Your DD only has one birthday a year - one day of buscuits is definitely OK.

Seriously, I live close enough to ocean that we don't even have Red Lobster here because you can get better seafood cheaper at the little mom and pop places - but when on vacation, I go to Red Lobster anyway just for those biscuits!

The biscuits are the only good thing. The crab cakes are simply dreadful.

Two words: Lobster Bisque!!! That's our favorite thing on the menu. I cannot believe no one's mentioned that yet.

I always order the popcorn shrimp and mashed potatoes. They're yummy! Like others before me said the cheddar bay biscuits are delicious! Enjoy your meal.

From one diabetic to another, the best thing that you can do for yourself is view the nutritional information and make a wise choice based on your carb intake as set forth in your food plan.

And forget the cheddar biscuits.

OK, so we went, and nobody went crazy on the biscuits. We had 5 people so they brought out 5 biscuits, and one went uneaten ( mine, but I did take a bite of my wife's when she said she didn't like them ).

I ate 1/3 of my meal because it had too many carbs, but I admit to sharing a piece of key lime pie - my favorite dessert, possibly. I had some kind of citrus shrimp. It was very tasty.

I'm in no rush to go again, but it didn't disappoint, as my expectations were tempered.
