First time cruise question

Hello all,

I was wondering if I could get a bit of information. Neither my wife nor myself have ever been on a cruise but thought that we might like to try one around the last part of August. I looked at the DIS DCL homepage and read that there is no possible way to tell how much my cruise will cost because of all the factors involved. My question is this....If my wife and I were to take a 7 night cruise-only to the Eastern Carribean in a Catagory 3 Stateroom, what would our APPROXIMATE cost be. Any information you could give to a couple of first-timers would be greatly appreciated.

there are two issues to consider when trying to book a Catagory 3.

First, if you are trying to book this August, you may be out of luck, catagory three and above book quickly, sometimes as fast as 2 years in advance. But people do cancel and they do sometime become available. You will have to check with Disney to determine availability.

The second issue is a result of the first one. Since these catagory 1 -3 book fast, typically there are no discounts to be found on these catagories. You will probably pay "Rack rate" . Rack rate runs for a Catagory 3 runs from $3,000 to $4,000 per person on a Seven night Eastern Carribean cruise. Thus the two of you will probably cost between $6,000 to $8,000.

I don't know what your cost would be, but there is a way to find out. Just go to Dreams and request a quote. They are very good about getting back to you quickly, and they have various rebates at times.

Whew....ok, that's a bit out of our price range....

Thanks for the info though....what I really want, more than anything is a room that has a balcony where we could sit and look out on the ocean. What catagories offer that amenity? Also what would the cost for the same cruise be for a catagory 5 or 6 stateroom?

You also might try looking at www.allseastravel.com. They have all of their prices listed by date, category and number of people. It would give you a ball park to start with.

We have a cat 6 booked for 9/14 and the cost was $2800. The varanda is great. We have room on the 9/14 Western.

categories 4, 5 and 6 all have open verandahs, with the cat 4 being a little bigger. Also the cat 7 is a navigators verandah, but from what i understand it is partially enclosed.

We are 30 mile your direction down I-24 from Nashville. Hi neighbor.

You will find the prices for veranda rooms more reasonable than a Catagory 3. We usually cruise in "off season" and pay about $2500 for a Catagory 7. This does not have a full veranda, but what is called a navigator veranda. It is similar to a sunroom off the cabin which has an open porthole to the sea. The porthole is about 3 feet in diameter.

If you want a quick quote, I would go to the DCL website and go to reservations and request an online quote. The quote will include insurance which is an option. there may be other discounts available. Some travel agencies offer incentive like shipboard credits or rebates for booking with them. Dreams is one of these.

I just check checked the cruises for this August 24th . They are pretty well booked up, thus discounts will be rare at this point. All it would quote me was a Catagory 6 (Full veranda) for $3700 for two adults. If you are looking for a cruise for next year, you maybe able for find cheaper prices. Disney offers the best discounts to those who book early.

...sail off season. Last year, we did a Fall Fantasy package, last week of September, with a Cat 7 (with Nav Veranda) and it came to $1100 pp.

We are planning our first ever cruise for July or Oct. 2003. I will definitely be asking a lot of questions later on.
