First time booking SW with points- have questions

I am new to booking SW with points. I just got a SW cc and am waiting to get my sign up bonus points. I will be buying 6 tickets and I am sure that the points will only be able to buy a few of the tickets. How will the booking process work- can I buy everything in one transaction using points and charging the rest? Can anyone talk me through the process? Thanks for any help.

Booking through southwest.com is very straight-forward, but I don't know how they handle it if you don't have enough points. However, did you know that you can BUY more points if you need them? I believe they cost $100 for 2000 points. We found that was the best choice for one trip, when we only needed about 100 more points for a ticket; it was cheaper to buy the points and use them for the airfare than it was to buy a whole ticket, and we had the balance of the points left for the next trip!

That's what I was wondering. So I am assuming that I will have 2 confirmation numbers?

I ended up with multiple confirmation numbers when we took our trip in July since I did some with points and some with cash. Was no big deal at all. I don't even remember them asking for the numbers at checkin at the airport. Just photo Id's and the credit card I had used online to pay for the tickets. Was easy.

When I have booked multiple tickets totally with points, I still ended up with separate confirmation numbers for each person, even though I booked them in the same transaction. I found it a bit of a pain when checking in at 24 hour mark, because then everyone had to have a cellphone to check in, but then remembered that the tickets were basically free so I couldn't really complain too much.

Find out what your closing date is, then add a day or two and you will see the points show up in your account.
