This is really a great site with lots of helpful information....thank you!
I've been a solo traveler (europe, USA, central America, Canada) for some 20 years since my divorce. Have been to Disneyland with my former wife and kids many moons ago but never have visited WDW.
I'll be there for 4 days between Christmas and New Years in what I'm told is one of the high crowd times of the year. I usually try to use public transportation when I travel and also use rental cars when that's the more practical way. But with the crowds and all do you think it would be wise to rent a car or take the Lynx. I'm staying at a hotel in LBV with the #50 bus stop right in front. I'm kind of a go with the flow type tourist and am fairly flexible. The lowest rental I've found is $200.00 with my Costco discount but I could get by for half that using the airport shuttle, hotel shuttle and a cab ride or two or three. Whadaya think I shoud do.?

You're in for a big treat heading to WDW! What a great time you'll have. :goodvibes I'd stick with the car rental on my first choice. Nice freedom to have. However, I have to admit (sorry) I don't know where/what LBV is. That may make a difference in my opinion.

I'll be there with my kids during the same time period (Dec 20-27). It is crowded, but beautiful!! Make sure to get to some of the resorts to see the displays ... they're magnificent. :thumbsup2

Where are you from?
:confused3

Given the time of year you're going, I'd rent the car. You're going to be exhausted from a day of fighting massive crowds and walking around, and the last thing I'd want to do is either get on a bus, or pay a heavy price for a cab. A rental car would give you more flexibility in where you want to eat or if you want to go out somewhere, too.

Just my .02

I have this debate with myself as well. I usually opt for the bus because I don't feel like driving when I'm tired ie: after a long day in the parks. And I don't like looking for signs/directions while I'm driving. However I usually stay onsite, so I think for offsite I would rent the car. I know I'm no help :confused3 but I hope you have a great time!:goodvibes

Thanks for the good advice.
Since I am staying off site and all I up and rented me a car.

Magical Express will pick you up at the airport and even deliver your bags to your room for you if you are staying on property. I;m not sure if they will do this if you are staying at a non-Disney owned resort in Lake Buena Vista. The Magical express is great! Saved us the cost of a rental car, and the stress of dealing with all that traffic. The only thing I would suggest is bringing anything you may need in the first few hours following your arrival in a carry on because your bags may not get to your room for a few hours. The kids wanted to take a swim when we arrived but our luggage (with the swimsuits) were not to our room yet.

Magical Express is offered by Disney for people staying at an on-site Disney resort only. Don't want to mislead the OP.

Good evening,

Donder, you'll have the kind of blast that you can't approach with dynamite. Staying in a hotel in Lake Buena Vista (for Kris [Ilivetogo] LBV; the community in which most of WDW sits, a much smaller one than Orlando), you'll be glad you rented a car. If you meet other DISers, a solo trip isn't so solo.

I plan on going solo next Christmas, unless I happen to find my PC. I have my kids every other year, and I don't have them next year. I love Disney World at Christmas! I am really considering a land/sea vacation.

One of my favorite things to do to prepare for a trip is to sew or embroider outfits for the trip to Disney. I have a Disney embroidery machine and have most of the Disney cards available. This is sooo much fun. I made a Mickey denim jacket last year that is alot of fun to wear.
