First time at universal

Hi! Were traveling to Orlando April 26 doing 5 days at disney world and going to do 3 days at universal. There are 6 kids coming with my husband and I ages 13-13-12-11-4-2. Was thinking about getting the dining plan. Any tips on first time visits or recommendations for places to dine! Thanks!

The dining plan recently changed. It is now more like a pre-paid one counter service meal with extra snacks and drink. It is not an all you can eat deal. The new plan is good at most places but not at any resort hotels.

Unlike Disney, US is very easy to get in and out of, so you can leave and get more affordable meal options. You also have some less expensive options like panda express and BK at city walk. US also closes earlier than Disney, making is easier to eat supper off site. These things make the meal plan less attractive for our family. Do try and eat at Mythos, in IOA. it is excellent.


The best tip I can give you, is to arrive early, and you can get lots done before it gets busy.

We were there over Thanksgiving. One of the places that surprised me was the Krusty Burger place by the Simpson's ride. There are different bays to order from and my group of 5 each found something we liked. You can use the dining plan there.

I would say yes. If you spend one full day at each park you should be able to do everything so three days are more then enough, in my humble opinion.

We just got back on Tuesday and spent 3 1/2 days there and had no problem doing everything multiple times. It wasn't crowded but we still used our express pass (we stayed on site). Unlike Disney, you can do everything in 2-3 days. I think 3 days is the perfect amount of time, especially if you plan in riding all the rides. I'd suggest Harry Potter in the last 2 hours of the day, much less crowded. We did that every night.

We used their other new dining plan. It had one counter service, one sit down meal and one snack and one drink.

Snacks were available everywhere and for almost anything. We used our credits several times for breakfast at Cinnabon.

Drinks are either fountain drinks or on City Walk you get a bottle of soda.

Every place in the parks took the plan and there were a few full service restaurants in City Walk that we used and enjoyed. You could easily get snacks in or out of the parks.
