We are going to Disney for the umpteenth time but this will be our first stay at Port Orleans Riverside. I'm looking for room suggestions, helpful hints, or just great memories!! And if you didn't like this resort, why?

I have never stayed there, but read a post near this one. YUCKOLA!!!!! Apparently the maids are skipping over the underside of the beds!:earseek:

Hi,

You'll love POR!! Go to breakfast @ boatwrights @ least once!! Fabulous! Try not to miss the piano guy @ night too. Really fun! The resort grounds are so beautiful & peaceful! Have a great time! Been there twice, hope to go back someday!

DH and I LOVE POR! We've been to Disney as a couple twice, both times we stayed there. Now we are going back for our honeymoon, and again staying there!

The resort is BEAUTIFUL! Benches and weeping willow trees, bridges across the river, the boat that goes down to Downtown Disney...

Since we've been there a couple times, PM me if you have any questions!

We always stay here. It's so relaxing and you feel like you've really "gotten away" from it all.

I just loved POR and had no "yuckola" experience, although truthfully, it would never occur to me to inspect underneath the beds.

We were in Building #17 in the Alligator Bayou section near the quiet pool/laundry area. I had tried for buildings #14 and #15, the most requested buildings because of their proximity to the food court/lounge complex and to the main pool area. So, I was disappointed at first, but came to appreciate this location. The quiet pool was just lovely, especially for doing laundry. We had a 5-10 minute walk to the food court and the walk was gorgeous, meandering and relaxing.

I preferred this section to the Mansion section. The mansions seemed too sterile and impersonal for my tastes. Others find the mansions more elegant and refined. Just a note... the Alligator Bayou section is the only section of any moderate or value resort that can accommodate families of 5, so expect to find more children here.

I really liked my stay at Riverside, very peaceful and very nice. It ranks at the top of my list for the moderates :)

we always stay at POR and love it. its just so beautiful with the lush landscaping and waterways. after a long day in the parks its so nice to take a break in the quiet pools and relax. we also like the main pool too and often sit up on the porch/deck area at muddy rivers bar and enjoy people watching while sipping on a cold drink. we have never had any bad experiences with mousekeeping either. always look forward to staying there.

We also stayed at POR for the first time our last trip down and LOVED it!!:D Very peaceful, relaxing and beautiful. We were in the Bayou section and found it to be very quiet. The only problem we encountered with the room was the leaky toilet and possibly bedbugs although I never saw them something in my bed was chewing on me everynight and the 1 night dd slept with me she was eaten too. My mother, who slept in the other bed, was not affected. I would not have even given the bedbug thing a thought until I got home and saw it on the DIS. Like I said I never actually saw them but didn't know to look for them and whatever these bites were they were NOT mosquito bites. We will definatly be going back to POR....:Pinkbounc :bounce:

We stayed in bldg. 27 and it was wonderful. No parking lot views, 1-2 minute walk to the food court, close to 2 pools, beauty, flora and fauna everywhere you look. Try the banana frech toast at Boatwright's. Take the boat to DTD. Swim in the really cool pool on the island. Relax! It's a wonderful place to be. Have a great trip/

Thanks for all the Info. DW, DD 2, will be making our first trip down to POR the week before Thanksgiving. From what I've gathered everybody loves it, and Building 14 and 15 are the ones to try for. One thing I haven't seen is anything about the Pools, which ones are heated, have a bar close by, have water slides. My 2 yr old loves the pool and something tells me we'll be there every afternoon to refresh after a day in the park.

Have stayed there every trip since 1996 and have never had a bad experience. Beautiful resort!!! It is DH and my fave by far.

Couple of points:

#1 It was A maid in one room according to that other post. Not all the maids in all the rooms. We should not paint them all with the same brush.

#2 It was at French Quarter, NOT Riverside.

Now, back to the OP's question.

We stayed at PO-R in January of 2003 and LOVED it. We were in bldg 14, steps to everything. DS had the best time "Armadillo Hunting" with his flashlight. The main pool was down for refurb, so we used the one at FQ. Had a great dinner one night in Boatwright's. We just really enjoyed our stay.

Just loved the vibe and the feel

I LOVE POR! Now that being said, I actually prefer the mansions.

What all POR lovers can agree on (sorry to be presumptuous) is of course the landscaping, Bob Jackson in the River Roost lounge and just the overall all sense of serenity.

Whether you are an early riser going for a cup of coffee and get to see the Sassagoula river smooth as glass, or are coming home after an evening at DTD and glimpse the lights from an a "regal mansion" there is nothing more calming within WDW IMHO.

Been to WDW 3 times, last time at POR. We were there in June this year.

LOVED IT!!! I would stay there again. Get Building #14, it's close to the food court & the first bus stop - no more than 5 minutes. :hyper:
The grounds are beautiful, even have wild life around all the waterways. So peaceful 1st thing in the morning.

Wish I was there again.
Jim
