I have just booked the POP, 3 nights for the weekend of June 7th.:cool1: We usually stay at a Mod, but with 5 in our group we needed an affordable way to stay on site. :wizard:

I requested connecting rooms, not a must, but it is nice to have. Also requested the 50's area. We will have a car, so is driving to the parks the way to go? Or would you take the buses? Do you need to bring your own towels to the pool?

Any other suggestions? :confused3

I just got back from Pop. It's actually one of my fav resorts. No you do not need to drive! In my opinion Pop has one of the best bus services of the resorts. We visited some of the Deluxes and waited forever for a bus. The Pop buses are ever 15 mins or so.

You do not need to take towels. You can get them from the front desk or from you room and just call housekeeping and get more.

One thing we noticed was that only a small laptop fits in the safe so if you are bringing one, remember that.

The 50's is a fun location!

I hope you have a great time.

agree completely!

as she say just call housekeeping to bring more towels.

try the frozen cokes - and other speciality items!

Also take the time to check out the shadow boxes in the lobby. Walk around the resort, camera at the ready, because this resort SCREAMS photo-ops!:thumbsup2 Your mousekeeper will give you extra towels for the pool. Play Twister!! You're gonna have so much fun...too bad we have to wait until August!

We too are thinking of trying Pop for the first time. We are DVC members and usually stay at the BWV and all star hotels if we come in the night before out BWV reservation starts. But thought Pop with its bus system would be better. Have heard baf things about the ventalation at Pop...has anyone else experienced this or is that a non-issue now since all Disney resorts are smoke-free?

I stayed in the 80s building from the 14th through the 20th and NEVER had issues with ventilation.. .(unless you consider that the 4 of us, with 2 connecting rooms all showered a few minutes apart from each other and the rooms got really humid. . .lol). No smoke smell at all. Very nice. I actually preferred the bus system at ASMu over Pop, but at least the busses to Pop only go to ONE resort. For the most part, the All Stars each have their own busses. But every now and then they share busses. Pop is HUGE. But very nicely layed out. As soon as you figure it out, you can get anywhere quickly. . .By the way, this resort is just begging to have its picture taken. . .

Oh and I should declare that this post is from a deluxe resort snob. . .though I have never stayed deluxe at Disney. . .won't bring up the details as to why.

never had a problem even before Pop went smoke-free.

it will bring back memories you have forgotten - just wasted on little ones....

We have loved the Pop. We used the buses and found they are very quick.

We like the "POP" waffles in the food court for breakfast! My dd would get the Mickey waffles.

Have fun!

Oh, my ds loves the brownies there.

oh, we love pop!!! will be there in aug. we always have the inlaws w/us so everytime i request connecting rooms we get them. 50s is one of our favorites bldgs. i think we've stayed in every bldg. now. it's close to the foodcourt. take everyone's advice and walk around the resort. my fil and dd love to walk to the lake and throw the fishing rod. pop is the only resort with icees!! the buses are great! i only drive in and when i have to leave from our trip.
have fun!

The only issue I have with Pop is that they seem to have gotten to maximum capacity when it comes to the size of the resort and the buses. Remember that Pop is equivalent to 1.5 All-Stars and only has 1 bus. Now granted we were there during free dining last September, but always seemed to have longer lines "well" after park closing. (We never leave a park till at least an hour after closing).

Early morning leaving the resort never seemed to be a problem, the rooms were fine, and the food court was fine.

While it's easier to take the bus to MK from Pop Century, if I have a car I like to drive to the TTC for my first MK visit and take the ferry to MK. I love the approach! After that, the bus is fine!

Wow, lots of encouragement and ideas. The DIS is great. Can't wait to get there! Thank you everyone. BTW, I did find a link on another POP post, it is full of great info.:)

50s was our favorite, and IMO I would drive instead of taking the bus....You are going to love it at the POP!

We also love POP. We stayed there for the first time 2 years ago, after staying at WL for 2 years, mainly because of all the recommendations here on DIS. In DD's words--"This is the best hotel ever, I never want to stay anywhere else!!" Needless to say, we are planning next year's trip and will be staying at POP again.

The food in the food court is good, we actually ate there a few times during our last trip because we were with a large group and also had some FL relatives join us.

We have never had any problems with the busses, either leaving POP or returning, even when the lines are long. Many times there have been multiple busses that come at the same time to help transport everyone.

We will be at POP on June 8th! I have stayed here
several times and we love it. We will be the big party of 18! I would
certainly recommend taking the bus. Why get in a hot car when you can hop on a bus. Besides you get to meet a lot of neat people and a lot of times you get a driver full of neat info! I think you will love POP. Enjoy!

We stayed @ the POP in November of 2007. We had an ajoing room with my inlaws. For 3 days both rooms smelled from smoke we complained to the front desk. They sent matience in with air cleaners. It did not do much. They came back the next day & stuffed towles into the exhaust fan in the Bathroom. They offered to move us to a new room but with 2 little ones & my inlaws that wasn;t really an option. Housekeeping said they found the room with the smokers, but they would not answer the door. Housekeeping claimed they could not go into the room to investigate because the do not disturb sign was on the door. I guess they felt privacy was more important than a fire hazzard. We were in the laptop building.
Besides that, the POP is a great hotel.. Very nostalgic & lots of fun.

OMG I can't wait to stay here!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad you all loved it there. We are staying in October for the first time, can't wait!

I agree. We stayed in 50's last year and loved the location. We always rent a car and use it. I'm not a bus person. There is no fee for parking at the parks if you are staying on site.

I've stayed at POP once, 3 years ago, on a trip with a friend. We were in one of the 80's buildings. It was fabulous!! Definitely a trip down memory lane (we're in our 30's)!! It took a little bit to figure out how to get to the main building at first, but once we did, we were good. In fact, we'll be there again this September (for my bday-wooo :cake: ), and can't wait to see stay there again!!!

Took a friend's daughter last year and didn't stay at POP (:(), she wouldn't have appreciated the nostalgia of it at all.
