Hi, I just ended up cancelling my Grand Floridian Cafe dinner (Love it there) for a Kona Dinner. I was interested in trying a new place, and I have never been to the Polynesian and was really interested in visiting it. I also saw on their menu you could order the Lapu Lapu drink which I have been wanting to try. What dishes do you recommend there? I don't like seafood, and DH seems to be allergic to some, so we will not be having seafood dishes. Which dessert is your favorite? Also, I believe I have read in the past that there is a walkway from the GF (where we're staying) and the poly - is this true? I ask because we aren't eating dinner till late (9:25 pm), and just in case we are there past the monorail running (whenever that actually is - I have heard differing reports), I want to make sure we can easily get back to the GF. Thanks for your advice/experiences in advance! :)

If seafood's not your thing, then I recommend the teriyaki steak--very good.

My favorite dessert is the Kilauea Torte, but DW loves the creme brulee.

Can't help you on the walkway question, but I'd be surprised if you'd finish dinner past a time when the monorails stop running.

Enjoy--Kona Cafe's one of our favorites, but let's try to keep it a secret a little while longer. ;)

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad to hear the teriyaki steak is good - I had been thinking about that one when I saw the menu. :)

We absolutely LOVE Kona Cafe!

One of the recent draws for us is the sushi, but I'll skim right over thas as you mentioned not being fond of seafood.

The sticky wings with mustard drizzle are SOOO yummy!

I agree with the previous poster who recommended the terriyaki steak. I have had this on many occassions and I love it!

Another great option is the coconut almond chicken served with a salad of mixed greens, strawberries and pineapple.

For dessert I suggest the Kona Kona (a waffle cone filled with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Served with 4 toppings on the side such as m&m's, sprinkles, toasted coconut etc..) and topped off with a big ball of blue cotton candy!

You can also order the Pineapple Bread Pudding with Bananas Foster Sauce that is served at Ohana. It is heaven in a bowl! :thumbsup2

OOhh I love bread pudding!!! That sounds wonderful! I have also seen pictures of the Kona cone you mentioned - I really want to try that!! It sounds like a very fun dessert. So glad the DDP allows DH and I to each have a dessert...hehehe :lovestruc

I think DH will really love those sticky wings you mentioned.

Thank you for your thoughts! :yay:

DH recommends the teriyaki steak and I recommend the rib eye steak. We both thought ours was the best. :goodvibes Both of us recommend the Kona Kone for dessert. Kona is my new favorite restaurant.

Another vote for the teriyaki steak! It's yummy! And definitely what I'm ordering next time. The duck dumpling appetizer is also very good. For dessert I LOVED the banana creme brulee. There's a thin layer of chocolate at the bottom and the combination is delicious. :)

Another vote for the sticky wings! I would never have tried them if not for my boyfriend's family ordering them on our trip back in January. They are wonderful and a must-order for me!

As for entrees, my personal favorite is the prime rib. I don't know if they still serve it, because I didn't see it on the menu posted on All Ears when I was browsing menus the other day. If they still have it, that would be my recommendation. The mashed potatoes that come with it are delicious, too!

And you have to try the bread with the butter that they bring you. I could make that my meal and be perfectly happy!!

Great, now I'm hungry for all of the above.

Yes, let's definitely keep Kona a secret as long as we can. We've been able to walk up for lunch on a number of occassions. I also highly recommend the teriyaki steak, the best steak I've eaten at WDW, my wife agrees. The pot stickers appetizer is also awesome. Don't eat dessert much, so I'll not offer an opinion on that. One last note, if you've never been to the Poly before take some time to hang out in the lobby. The ambience is incredible. And, yes, there is a walkway to the GF along ths lagoon. Very romantic at night, and not too far to walk. You'll enjoy the whole experience and will want to stay at the Poly on your next trips ;)

There is a an outdoor "pathway" you can take. From the GF lobby, head towards the wedding pavillion and spa area, then just keep walking to the Poly. It's lovely at night. Your leisurely stroll with take about 15 min. Have fun!

Thank you everyone for your input! The food sounds wonderful (we'll def be getting the sticky wings, teriyaki steak, and kona cone, who knows what else hehe). I am so glad that I got a reservation here. It sounds like a wonderful place!

I too have to agree with the steak. As for dessert, I had the chocolate fondue and it was wonderful. You are going to LOVE visiting the Poly, it is one of my favorite resorts. Really take the time to walk around, especially outside :thumbsup2

I love the Kona! But I think it's too late...the secret is out! I tried making ADRs for the week of 10/10 and couldn't get ANYTHING! I tried online & on the phone. I tried breakfast, lunch & dinner. Nothing! Even the CM on the phone was surprised. Go figure!

I don't remember what I've gotten in the past but everything has been really good!

OOH I love Kona!! Good decision cancelling GFC.

I like the steak!! YUM! The mashed poatoes that came with it were yummy!!!

For dessert I had the chocolate banana creme brulee!!! YUMMY! Wait till you see the desserts they have on display! So good!

Hmmm...so glad we are going on the ddp (two desserts...yay!!), because I really have to have the kona cone, but that chocolate banana creme brulee you guys have mentioned sounds amazing...surely I can convince dh to order that as his dessert...:woohoo:

I'm glad to hear the mashed potatoes are good - i'm a very big mashed potato fan! :)

I must say I have never had anything at Kona that was not delicious, even breakfast.OMG delish. The steak, prime rib & chicken all wonderful, the creme brulee wow....You can not go wrong.
As for the monorail they run much later than you will be dining. No worries.
Have fun & enjoy.

Made an ADR this week for our first visit to Kona during our trip in late October. Looking forward to it even more after reading all these great suggestions...thanks! We'll be hopping the monorail over to the Poly for an early Kona dinner before heading back to MK for MNSSHP on 10/27!
