My family and I will be camping for the first time at Fort Wilderness in October 2010. It has been a 10 year dream of ours to camp there and it is finally coming true. If anyone has any recommendations, hints, or just good stories, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the board. FW is a great place to visit, and I wouldn't mind living there. Wander around this forum and you will find all sorts of things to consider. Some of the advice will actually be good. Give us more info about your plans and you will be inundated with advice.

Welcome to the camping boards ! :thumbsup2
So, does that big ol orange
T mean that you are from Tennessee or a Tennessee wanna be or you just like Tennessee football ?
There are lotta folk from TN. on these boards,, read around and you'll meet them, oh,,and there are lotta good folk from other places too.:rotfl2:

We are from Tennessee and are Tennessee Fans! We will be camping in our fifth wheel with just my husband, son(7) and myself. I have reserved a premium site for the week of Oct 2 - Oct 9. I am thinking about coming in a day early so that I can run the 5k Family Fun Run through Magic Kingdom on Saturday morning. We'll see if I can train for it. I've only ran 3k runs before, but surely if I can have Mickey cheering me on and the castle in the background, I can make it. :yay:

Thanks for all your input!

Welcome to the boards ataylorrdh!! :woohoo: I am another one of those TN folks Frank mentioned above.

We are planning a visit to the Fort in October as well....but arriving on the 9th. We will wave as we pass you on I-75. :lmao:

There is SO much to do at the Fort and Disney, and lots of it is free. Disney of course can be as expensive as you want it to be, but one bit of advice I give first timers is not to plan every day at the parks unless you really want to cram in a lot. Our first trip to the Fort was 5 days, and we got 5 day park hoppers. We had a good time, but found we booked another Fort vacation just to stay at the campground and not do any parks. The Fort is a destination in itself with so much to do, so if possible plan some downtime to just hang out. If you can bring bikes it is THE BEST place to ride them!

Not sure if this is your first time to WDW or just your first Fort trip, but if you are unfamiliar with Disney dining and plan on eating any sit down meals out, check out the Dining website and get familiar with the reservation process, which they call ADR's (Advance Dining Reservations). You can reserve most restaurants 180 days before your arrival date for the length of your stay up to 10 days, and the popular ones book quickly. So if you want to do Hoop De Doo, or any of the park sit down restaurants, book those on April 5th (180 days before Oct 2). You can do it online. Of course, one of the benefits of having your fiver at the Fort is being able to cook meals....but just in case you will be eating out at all keep this in mind.

Ask questions as you plan your trip. You will get a lot of good advice on here. And if your topic quickly veers sideways into a discussion of BEER, don't be offended. It happens to EVERY topic evenually! :rotfl:

October is a great time to go! Alot of people will start to decorate there sites for Holloween. Have you thought about doing The Not So Very Scary Mickey Mouse Holloween Party. It's alot of fun!
Welcome to the Board!

You will love it. No other campground like it around. Check through the boards and check out the photos. Bring a swim suit, the pool is heated and has a great hot tub now, since the renovation.

When catching the boat to MK, be at the dock 35-40 minutes before the scheduled opening of the park, to catch that first boat over. Consider also renting a golf cart, if it does not crunch you budget. Even though there is internal bus transportation within the Ft., it is a fun way to get around and it could save you several minutes hwen trying to catch connecting bus to one of the parks.

I would also recommend getting tickets to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party for one night.

I'll be at the Ft myself in May & October this year.

Also check out allearsnet.com website for other info.
