First Time at CBR: Our Thoughts

We stayed for six nights at CBR in September. Booked a standard room and were originally placed in Martinique but were moved after two nights to Trinidad North (preferred) because of the strong odor in our original room.

The grounds are quite nice and the kids really enjoyed the playground. It is in a beautiful, shaded area. Kids also had fun at the pirate play area and the main pool. The lifeguards are so observant and really do their jobs well, as they do at all Disney pools. I saw a lifeguard leap in to get a child who came off the slide and began flailing. He didn't hesitate for a second.

The rooms were too dark and stuffy for me. Both of our rooms had a musty odor, but our first room was unbearable. The second one was okay but still seemed as if it were not well ventilated. The kids loved the murphy bed, though.

Watching the HS fireworks at night was really nice. You have a beautiful view from the area around the lake. I had not expected to be able to see them so well. I love the bar area around the pool where the movie is shown. Makes for a nice place to hang out at night.

Shutters had good food and service. The food court was nice and never seemed too crowded. We loved the breakfast quesadilla and the barbecue sandwich. Both were filling and delicious. I thought the prices were reasonable. Still, we missed the make your own salad and pasta that we can get at POR and AoA.

The music and theming was fun, but I think I must have heard Day-O about fifteen times. Surely there must be another Caribbean song? :P

The convenience to the water parks, mini golf, and HS was awesome. So easy to get to these places. I imagine Epcot would be easy to get to, also, but we did not go to Epcot this trip.

Driving was much better for us. The buses came frequently and the service was good, but with seven bus stops, and ours being the next to last, we became a bit impatient with waiting.

In spite of its positives, we decided that this is really not the resort for us. Even in a preferred room, the walk to the food court seemed quite long with a four year old. It may not be a big deal with older children or with healthy adults, but for us, we would prefer to be in a smaller resort. When we stayed at POR in a RR, I did not really mind the walk, but then I was staying with a six year old at the time. I would definitely not stay at this resort with my mom, who has mobility issues--even in a preferred room. I also think it would be (and was) challenging to drag around a young child (or children).

I would stay here again and it is a perfectly nice resort and provides good value for the cost. Still, this is our least favorite moderate (omitting CSR since we have never stayed there- have stayed at the other moderates including the cabins). The dark rooms and the resort size just were not for us, and we prefer the theming at the other moderates.

Really nice review, getting first hand details is great since we're trying CBR first time in about a month. I kinda forgot how close CBR is to Epcot and HS, I googled it and it looks like less than 10 minutes to both. Looks like we'll be driving to those two as I'm been kinda worried about transportation.

We have reservations at CBR 3/24-4/1/17, used our pin code and got a good price. This will be our first time at a Moderate and got a preferred room. I requested Martinique and was wondering what room y'all were in as we are a family of 4 and will have a pull-down murphy bed.

We initially had a standard room in Martinique so you would not be in the same building as that. When we were moved to a preferred room, it was in Trinidad North. It was 3114.

Preferred rooms in Martinique do seem to be a tad closer to the food court than rooms in Trinidad North.

I think this is a nice review. I really like CBR but it's the only mod I've stayed in. One of my best memories from that trip was laying in a hammock in the beach enjoying the beautiful day. I definitely think driving worked best for us as well.

What a helpful review, thank you. I just booked a Disney trip, split stay between Cabana Bay at Universal (Granddaughter who we are taking with her parents wants to do Harry Potter) and Pop. For our dates, CBR was the closest price wise if we decided to jump to moderate (need two rooms), and since we have stayed at all Mods except CBR I was interested in feedback. However, think I will stick with Pop. Don't laugh but we really like the one bus stop, I think the multiple bus stops and loading/unloading at times feels endless!

I think you made a good decision. We have stayed at Pop and I think that I would choose it over CBR for the one bus stop. The busses at Pop were great, and we loved the music they played. I loved the theming and music at Pop, and the walk around the lake is beautiful. You might even get a chance to walk over to AoA to check out the decor there.

Hope you have a wonderful trip! Sounds like it will be fun.

We stayed there twice. We paid for preferred the first time, so everything was great. Our kids were 2 1/2 and 5, so everything was cheaper. We went back last year and my husband hated it. I like the theme and the walking didn't bother me. He hated the walk to the food court. We had a great room in Martinique that was close to the bus stop, though.

It's funny you mention Day-O. We were in Bermuda two weeks ago and I didn't hear it once there or on our cruise. LOL

I don't see us going back to CBR, either. Depending when/if free dining is offered next year will depend if we go value or moderate. For the amount of time we spend in our room or at the pool, we'd rather go back to All Star Sports. :)

FD does make a difference as to which resort we choose. If FD were only offered at CBR and not the other mods, we would probably stay there again. It is a great deal for us. We only paid around $180 a night for CBR standard, and we would have paid that for the dining plan for the four of us. Kind of like getting the room free, if we were going to buy the dining plan anyway.

Mods are the best deals on FD. I actually booked a BB when we were there for next July, but I chose POR. It also has a lot of bus stops, but I really like the theming, the grounds, and the boat to DS. Food court is my fave of the mods also.

Can't believe you didn't hear Day-O.

I tend to be more picky about resorts when DH travels with us also. He is picky and I want him to be happy. Me- I can be happy anywhere in my Disney bubble.

That's why we stayed there last year. I'm now torn between CSR and POR for next year.

ABSOLUTELY agree with the dh thing. Mine isn't picky but he doesn't like to walk a mile in the morning to get coffee. I'm like you - Disney is my happy place.

Thanks for the review, we're staying here in December for the first time. We booked a standard room and I'm curious how many beds you had?

The standard rooms have 2 queen size beds. Some of them have the pull down Murphy bed and some don't. Families of 5 automatically get a pull down bed.

Thank you so much! I was wondering about this. I didn't know if we needed to request the rooms with a pull down bed or not. We are a family of 6, but the youngest is under 2 so he can use a pack & play.

if the distance to the food court is an issue, POR and CSR might not be much better...POFQ is probably the best choice for being compact.
I requested POFQ for the bounce back but was told it was unavailable.

We actually really prefer POR for the grounds and theming, but I would have chosen POFQ for the convenience. POR seemed the best choice of the available mods for convenience.

We have stayed in all the moderates and CBR was our favorite- but we were in preferred and happened to be there a week that buses were spot on. We love POR too. I don't think I'd stay at CBR again if I couldn't stay preferred, and I don't feel I need to at POR. So we will probably keep going to POR because it's quite a price jump from standard there to preferred CBR.

Then definitely get a preferred room. I love POR best of the moderates for the theme and feel.

I agree with your review and could have written it myself. Same issues with the strong odor, having to move rooms. We did not care for the 7 bus stops and how crowded the buses were. Loved the fireworks views, beaches, island playground and found the food offerings to be great. In the end, we prefer Riverside and French Quarter. While CBR had some positives, it's not for us.
