First stay at OKW, what should we do?

Staying at OKW in a couple weeks (2 BR) and have a few questions. We own at VWL and did like a food court but not a big deal. Anyway the first day we should be in by 2PM and need to do something the first day/evening but not at a park. Is Olivias recommended and then maybe take a boat to DTD? Not golfers either. How is the transportation? Should we have asked for a certain building or level? Thanks OKW vets.

I highly recommend Olivia's. Ask for Dominic as your waiter. He does this thing with the fudge cake - puts it in the microwave so the fudge starts to run, then tops it with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. It is to die for.

I like to spend the first evening at DTD and PI. It's usually the only day I'm not too tired to go out at night. Try the Adventurer's Club at PI - very amusing.

Have a great trip!

Dominic! I think he was our wonderful waiter on Mother's Day at Olivia's! He has been at Olivia's for awhile & is an excellent server.

Meanwhile for your arrival day ... Are you driving or flying? Will you have a car? You might want to relax at the pool, enjoy some food at Olivia's, take the boat or bus to downtown, visit other resorts, go to bed "early" because you'll be on the go the rest of your vacation :), etc. HAVE FUN!

Olivia's is great, and the boat to DTD is probably my favorite "attraction" in WDW. :D

For me, the transportation is better than that of many other resorts because the buses take you directly to your destination. The only detour that we took a few weeks ago was when riding on the DTD bus, as it stops at Typhoon Lagoon on the way. The only time we waited more than 15 minutes was when one bus was just pulling away when we got to the bus stop.

Maybe the top floor if you don't want to hear anyone running overhead, although this has never been a problem on any of our OKW trips. You may want to ask to be near a bus stop, the Hospitality House, or a quiet pool if this is something you prefer. Guests report having better luck asking for a particular view or location over a particular building.

I like being in Buildings 23-26, only because it's close to the Peninsular Road bus stop and the Hospitality House. If you miss the bus at Peninsular Road, it's only a few minutes walk to the bus stop at HH. However, I think that all the buildings have their own charm.

This link is to a photo of building 45, right on the Trumbo Canal - this may be my next request. :D http://wdwig.com/okw49.jpg

Also, I've just updated the Old Key West FAQ on Deb's site - maybe something there will be helpful. I included a small section on room requests. http://wdwig.com/faq_okw.htm

Have a great time!!!

If you're not going to have a car, then I'd request a building closer to the Hospitality House so you can walk there as needed. If you request a 2nd or 3rd floor unit, ask to be in one of the buildings with the elevator...it's a lot easier than schlepping your luggage up stairs.

As far as your first night's stay, I'd say that Olivia's and then DTD sounds nice!!!! Or maybe just DTD and dine there...Fulton's Crab House is always good for seafood or Portobello Yacht Club for Italian. There's nothing better than to have the time to mosey around DTD,IMHO.

I would definitely eat at Olivia's - we have never had to wait there for a table, and we have waited many times (for a long wait) in July to get into a restaurant at DTD. Then, take that wonderful boat ride over to DTD and enjoy yourselves.

Thanks everyone. Sounds pretty laid back there-should have plenty of energy for the parks then come back and relax.
