First Solo Visit

So I left work early yesterday and with my boyfriend's encouragement, went to DL for my first solo visit. I was there for about 7 hours, till closing and although I was nervous and unsure at first, I had lots of fun.

The best part of the day was I really got to take my time and just explore the park. When I go with my BF we usually focus on rides and getting the most possible in. So this trip I didn't even ride anything until about two hours in. I love the Disney Gallery and just marveled at all the Halloween decorations on Main Street and Big Thunder. I got to enjoy the parade, Fantasmic, and the Fireworks all over again. I tried my first dole whip (it was good, but not enough pineapple for me, so I will have to get a float next time) and got a free Churro from a very nice CM who was fighting with her credit card processor. I went on 5 rides for the first time that BF was never interested in (Casey Jr, Teacups, Dumbo, Astro Orbitor, and King Arthur's Carousel.)

The downside was riding some of our favorite rides without him. There's just nothing like laughing and squishing each other on Big Thunder. I also didn't really like eating alone, even though the people watching was fun. Usually meal times are when we laugh about things we have seen and discuss our plans for the rest of the day.

Otherwise, I had a better time than I thought I would. I would do another solo trip so I can do more things bf isn't into, but I would probably wait a while. The best part of Disney is sharing all the moments and memories and fun.

Glad you enjoyed your first solo trip! Of course it's always more fun to share your trip, but I've been going to Disneyland solo regularly for almost three years now and I'm such an advocate for it. I love the freedom! I agree with you that eating alone is a bit lonely - but that's usually when I bust out the iPhone and update my facebook with fun Disneyland posts :)

Glad you at a great first solo trip!

I'm hoping to have a good experience with my first solo trip a little later on this year.

I'm spending a weekend alone at Disneyland for my birthday in early December. I'm super excited to do exactly what you mentioned - just walk through and get to spend time looking at things that you usually wouldn't. I'm also really looking forward to taking a lot of photos.

That said, I am a bit nervous that I'll start to feel lonely after the first day or so. We'll see how it goes.

How was standing in line for rides? Did it feel awkward being alone?

I just got back from a solo trip, too, and yes - the eating alone was... different. HOWEVER, I recommend for future solo trips to find restaurants with bars, and eat solo at the bar. Bartenders are great company, plus you'll often find other solo diners at the bar.

Sometimes, yes, it was a bit odd being alone in the line. I went with the goal of going on the teacups for the first time and ended up walking by it and deciding not to do it. I just felt odd as an adult going in a teacup all by myself. I ended up going back twenty minutes later and telling myself I HAD to go, no matter how weird I felt. Lo and behold, when I went on it there was another single rider in a cup near me, making me feel MUCH better.

If I was doing it again, I would probably try and talk to people in lines or when waiting for shows more. I did talk to a nice older couple while waiting for Fantasmic, and I made me forget I was alone and was really nice.

I get to go to DL by myself next week. I am so very much looking forward to it. I love the freedom of doing what ever I want. If that is riding the same ride over and over again or stopping to people watch - I can do it. I don't even feel bad eating alone.I just take in the atmosphere and plan what I am going to do next.
