I will be taking my first solo trip ever in a couple of months, and I am starting to get more than a little nervous. Even though I have been to Disney World 11 times, the idea of being there alone still makes me a bit shakey. What if something goes wrong, and I am all alone? What if I get myself lost?

If you experienced any first solo trip jitters, would you please share with me how you coped? Or if you have any tips for me, lay them on me! I don't want to spend this trip stuck in my resort room, scared to leave!

Sorry to freak out on you all, but I guess I really just need to here that I will be ok.

there nothing to worry about i always go alone if you have any problems there is cast members than can help you if you have a cell phone most of them have gps app in them that have street maps being alone you get to eat, ride, or just relax at the hotel on your own time you don't have to worry about others saying i don't want to ride that because the line is to long or the ride is to scary for me or the food is to nasty for me have fun that is my 2 cents

You're not really alone... you're surrounded by fellow lovers of all things Disney and that surely counts for something. You are going to have so much fun! I think you'll be able to relax and enjoy the parks, doing exactly what YOU want to do and when you want to do it. Relax and enjoy. If you get lost, speak up and you're surrounded by people who will gladly help. Nothing will happen and you will have a wonderful time. I'm jealous that you're going in a couple of months... I have to wait until September!! have fun!

Don't worry. You're going to be fine, and you'll have a great time! If you are staying at a Disney resort, there's no way you can really get lost. Just ask cast members or friendly looking families if you need help. Disney can be a confusing place to get a handle on with all the transportation options, so people are constantly asking if they can take the monorail, if there's a boat, which is faster..etc. No big deal.

You just might want to make sure you have some sort of updated emergency contact information like a card in your wallet just in case something did happen to you. Then they would know how to contact your family, if you had any health issues, if you were allergic to any medications, and who your doctor was. Don't worry. You won't need it.

Think of how much you will have doing whatever you want. You get to decide the days agenda and will have an awesome time. I love Disney solo. :)

I did my first solo trip last year.

Don't worry about getting lost. I get lost all the time because I like to try new ways to get places and around Disney there are plenty of signs and people to point you in the right direction unlike in my normal life. :rotfl:

I planned for spraining my ankle (brought 2 wraps with me), getting sick (brought samples of cold meds, flu meds, tea bags, sweetener, advil, tylenol), getting a toothache (brought some orajel) and carried my cell phone with me everywhere.

I didn't sprain anything, get lost, get sick or have a toothache and usually I'm having an issue with at least one of those things.

I had a wonderful time, met some really nice people, did everything I wanted and can't wait to do it again.
Relax and have a great time. :thumbsup2

I love going alone !!! This will be my 3rd time !!! The best prt is you get to do exactly what you want to, when you want!!! I get toeat where I want to and I usually meet up with fellow Dissers !! Check to see if any other Dissers are going when you are and arrange Meets !!! They are so much FUN!!!

Everything will be fine and you'll love it.

I go to WDW with my partner so we usually stick together but one of the best days I ever had at Disney was when we decided to split up and do our own thing.

I remember sitting on a bench in Epcot people watching having a great time thinking to myself that my partner would have been prodding me to move and get on the next ride. It was bliss... :)

Let me ask a question here - what if you're going somewhere new at home, or starting a new job?? Do you panic over that??? Most likely not - you simply take care of things. Being at WDW or anywhere else is the same thing. If you get lost, you ask someone for directions. If you get sick, you either get yourself well or seek medical help. If you lose your wallet, you do just what you'd do if you lost it at home. Honestly, it's no different - no big deal. Relax & have a great trip. You'll laugh about this afterwards!

You will have a great time! Went solo last Dec and even though you may go down "solos" you meet so many nice people throughout the day. Have a super fun trip!

Like most would say: You do what, when and whereever you please w/o the hassles of dealing with friends and families....well opinionwise.

I go to WDW (sometimes Universal as well) to just get away from general BS...especially working in a drama infested grocery store lol.

I am a pin fan & disney fan, DH is not. I try and make 2 to 3 trips to the world, he is happy with one. So if I want to go down I go by myself. (we are DVC owners). I have a bad back so I rent a scooter and sometimes I have a problem with getting in/out of the elevator, but otherwise I love my solo trips. I leave when I want, get up when I want, eat when I want, well you get the picture. It is during my solo trips that I sit around and do more people watching. I also go on rides that I like that other people may not like to ride. I wander around the park, do some pin trading, do some people watching and basically enjoy the laid back pace. The first time I went solo I filled up my time meeting fellow Dissers that were going down solo. I was so anxious about meeting new people :scared1: (I'm shy) or being late for the meetings, that I ended up not enjoying the trip. Since then, I don't plan for anything and have a wonderful time. My next solo trip will be 10/10/10 for the pin event. Penny:hippie:

I'm loving the responses on this thread. I'm about to book my first solo trip and have the same concerns and jitters but feel much better now knowing it will be a great experience.

Now my main concern will be who can I get to take my picture with the characters? I've always had friends or family to do that for me. ha ha! :)

Hi Robert,

Don't worry about getting pictures. Most of the time there will be a photopass photographer and a character handler (not sure what their official title is) around. Either one will be more than happy to take a picture for you with your camera and the photopass camera too if you want that. Sometimes there won't be a photopass photographer around and the handler will be towards the back of the line. Usually they will come up and take your picture, but if they are distracted towards the back, just ask the people behind you to take your picture. Most people are super nice and don't mind taking your pic at all. Strangers (solos and families) ask me to snap their pics all the time at Disney. It's fun. :)

I saw in your roll call post you are from the same hometown as gymnast Shawn Johnson. I'm a huge fan of the sport. Enjoy your solo trip.

Awesome! I forget how friendly all the families are as well. I guess I've taken a few pics for folks in the past too.

Yeah, Shawn is still a pretty big celebrity here in town. The buzz right now is if she'll compete in the next summer Olympics. Last I heard is that she's planning to.

I have been to Disney solo and it is so fun! Get to do what I want when I want. :)

Regarding pictures I will ask someone to take my picture and then will offer to take a picture of there whole family. That way mom & dad are both in the photo. It amazes me how many people are amazed that I would do that. I have never had anyone turn me down to take my pic.

This coming December will be my 12th annual solo trip. It is truly a wonderful experience !

If you are afraid of getting lost while driving to and from WDW in a rental car, I would say to prepare by having all your roads mapped out before going.

If you are afraid of getting lost while at Disney, I would say just ask any castmember the way on any given day. It is so easy to get help, you should never worry about it.

Because I travel alone, leaving my DH at home with the cats, I do take some precautions. It may sound silly, but I will not use my favorite cough drops while I am alone in my room. I have had a few experiences when I fell asleep with the cough drop in my mouth, and I swallowed it in my sleep. I woke up immediately and coughed it up. This is scary, and I don't want to be alone all night in case it happened again, so I just don't use cough drops at all.

Also .. When I am getting out of the tub, I use extra slow motion movements, because I want to super minimize a possible fall in the bathroom.
I'm afraid of falling and no one finding me for a while.

In al my 11 solo trips, nothing bad like this ever happened, so I am really glad about that!

You will be just fine. I am a single female who goes to Disney at least twice a year alone. It's the perfect place, because it is so family and people friendly.

I have never gotten lost, but that being said, I never rent a car. I just use the free bus transportation and stick to all things Disney.

Visitors and Cast Members are all very friendly and helpful too, if you ever have a question. You will love it. It is fun to go with friends, but it's also fun to go alone and do your own thing when you want to. In fact, I am on here because I am starting to think about my next solo trip possibly in April. I need some warmth and sun right away, after this cold winter!

Another female WDW solo'er here and please don't worry! Just be aware of your surroundings at you are at any other place and enjoy (this goes for men AND women).

One tip ... if this is your first solo trip, remember that you always have your cell phone (I'm assuming) and your friends/family/whatever are just a phone call away. If you're ever feeling weird or odd, call someone at home and talk about your surroundings. Chances are that the person at home will be so envious of you being in WDW and you will realize that you are very happy to be there.

Have a great time and I think you will probably be a frequent solo'er too, before you know it. :thumbsup2
