I used to be a huge Apple fangirl. I had an iBook, several iPods, and then eventually an iPhone4. I've had my iPhone for 3 years and 5 months. It is starting to get slow and unresponsive... I know it's on its last legs.
Considering that I now run Linux exclusively at home and have an Android tablet (Nexus7), opening up my old laptop just to run iTunes for my iPhone & iPod is a pain in the tush. I no longer live in an Apple "ecosystem" and the iPhone is no longer practical for me.
Within the next couple of months I'll be purchasing a Nexus5 phone to match my Nexus7 tablet. I love the Android look and the way it operates and most importantly that I have a lot more freedom with Android than I do with Apple iOS.
If you have an Apple computer and other Apple products and use iTunes a lot, an iPhone might work for you. Otherwise, I'd go Android.
