Has anyone here ever been the person who slides down Summit Plummet to officially open Blizzard Beach in the morning? We will be at BB for my son’s 10th birthday, and he sure would like to be that person, but I have no idea how the person is picked!

AFAIK you need to be the first (or one of the very first) group of people at the park entrance. At some point a CM will come out & pick a group to be the ones to "open" the park. We did this with my mom when I was veryyyyyyy young, and Backside of Magic talked about it a few months ago too.

Yep, as far as I know you need to be super early to be that person. To me, that's simply not worth it. We've been the very first to go down after "that person" and all we had to do was show up at 9:50am for a 10:00am opening and hustle right to Summit Plummet. Easy peasy and pretty cool.

Well one year Disney had an error on their Hours schedule and we thought BB opened at 9 instead of 10 (evidently it got corrected sometime after I planned my day), and we were WAY early (like 1.5 hours). My kids, only one of whom met the height requirement, were by far first but the taller one was not asked. A single boy (second to arrive) was asked and did it. Not sure if they maybe didn’t pick mine because they saw the other sibling couldn’t ride and didn’t want to possibly create an issue or what. But yes, be among the first, look enthusiastic, and hope for some luck.

We got to be Family of the Day at Blizzard Beach several years ago and my son got to go down Summit Plummet as they did the count down to open the park. The rest of us went down right after. It was a memorable experience, especially for my oldest son who went down the slide as the incoming crowd cheered on. They gave him a pin to wear and he was so proud when people would come up to him to congratulate him for opening the park.

Besides getting to be the first down Summit Plummet, we were given a free locker, towels and The Captain's Hut(I think that's what it's called) to use for the day. The Captain's Hut has a picnic table chairs and loungers. It was a little strange when we would enter because it has a chain around and a sign for private use. We actually invited a family will little kids to use the hut when we left.

I know we were chosen because we arrived at the park very early. Since we had never been to Disney water park before, I thought the rope drop experience would be similar to all the other parks. My family was not pleased with me dragging them early. We started chatting with a CM while we waited and that CM eventually asked us if we wanted to come in early to get a feel for the park. Then several CMs surprised us with Family of the Day.

In addition to being there early like others have said, maybe your son could wear a birthday button and/or t-shirt in the hopes that a CM might notice? I know it's not a guarantee of pixie dust, but it couldn't hurt!
