We will have FP+s and a loose plans for our MK days (May 2018) but none of the kids have ever been (will be 4,5,5 and 13 months at time of trip). So we want a "wow" first experience on our first MK day. Don't want 7DMT right off or anything that might be scary not knowing how they'll react. What would you recommend for the first attraction that all 4 kids can enjoy?

I'm bringing my little niece for my next trip. Have no clue how she will react to dark rides. Worried that she might not react well if we do Peter first because its a bit dark. My plan is to start with Mad Tea Party, the Carousel, and then Dumbo. Our first dark ride will be Under the Sea. Saving Peter and Pooh for the next morning. Also curious to see what other people plan to do.

Peter Pan was my almost 3 year olds favorite ride the first time he went. Plus the line is super fun with the story told in pictures and two interactive parts.

Pooh would get my vote but I have to say, when DGD (3 at the time) picked the first ride for her first trip, she picked Tea Cups. She said before she ever stepped foot on property that she wanted to ride the Tea Cups with Pop Pop. We aren't even sure how she knew about them, probably a commercial on TV or something. She's 9 tomorrow and still the first ride she and Pop Pop do on our trips

If they have a favorite character that has a ride, I would start there. Pooh and Peter Pan are good starter rides. They also have lines pretty early in the morning. Barnstormer is a relatively mild roller coaster ride. We started both our kids on that and moved up based on their reactions. Our son was three and a half his first time he went and loved Barnstormer and Splash Mountain. We tried Big Thunder and that was too much for him then. I think the problem was there were only two of us in the car and the lap bar did not hold him in place. My kids still love the tea cups for some reason. They get a kick out of the spitting camel in Aladdin. Haunted Mansion ca scare younger kids with the theming though there really isn't anything that scary.

The one piece of advice is that kids will want to do some simple things like playing in the playgrounds. It's best to give them some leeway.

I'm going to go with Small World. I know some adults don't care for it (personally, I love it), but from the eyes of 4 or 5 year olds, I think it's a great Disney place to start. Not that I think any of the other ones are "bad", I'd have no problem taking kids that age on those rides. But to me, IASM doesn't have a ton of high tech lights, lasers, noises, etc.... It's lots of simple moving animatronics (if that's the right word for them), almost like cartoon characters, with simple music playing. I realize Pooh and Pan are fairly simple too, but my preference would be IASM simply because of how big it is and how much variety it has.

It could also be personal bias, as it's one of the few rides I remember from my first visit to WDW, when I was pretty young. In my eyes, it's as Disney as WDW gets.

Rather than rushing with the crowds to Fantasyland, you may consider turning left off Main Street USA and heading to Adventureland. We have done this with our son when he was 2, 4 and 5, and it worked well. We hit the Swiss Family Treehouse, Aladin’s magic carpet ride, and the Jungle Cruise (he also likes the Pirates ride). From there we stroll to Frontierland, where we done the Country Bear Jamboree and let him run around Tom Sawyer’s Island (he loves that place and will spend 90 minutes there).

Now, here's where it gets tricky. With small children, we’re all trying to avoid the dreaded meltdown. If it's close to noon, we’ll take the train from Frontierland back to the front entrance and take Disney transportation back to our resort for lunch and nap. Even if our son isn't physically tired, his noodle is baked from excitement, so a trip to the resort pool and rest is good for everyone.

Recharged, we head back to MK around 5PM and take the train to Fantasyland to do all the fun items there. Usually by the time we are done, we are ready for the nighttime shows and fireworks, and then head back to the resort.

We never rush our trips, and we let our son go at his own pace, so we may be slower than other families. We do tend to miss a few rides because of our laid back style, but in four trips to WDW with our son, we've never had to deal with the meltdown at any of the parks.

Every trip we do, the very first ride we do is the Mad Tea Party. We have done this since the kids were tiny and it is now tradition. I'd do Dumbo, people mover, Buzz, etc. Lots of options at MK
