Hello,

Fist I would like to thank all the people who post here as I've been reading for quite some time and the information is incredibly helpful. My wife and I just bought into DVC through resale and are waiting to be entered into the system. We closed on July 2nd. We are hoping to boom our first DVC trip October 11th through the 19th and are wondering what the availability is at any resorts being only 3 months out. We are looking at booking either 2 studios or a 2 bedroom preferably with 2 queen beds. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks again.

Congrats on your purchase and Welcome Home! As far as your trip goes, you'll probably have the most luck piecing the trip together at SSR. The first weekend of your trip will probably be the most difficult because it's the end of Columbus Day week and a number of school districts have a fall break then.

Good luck! And be sure to let us know how you made out. pixiedust:

WELCOME HOME:wave2: If you go to the DVC members website, you can check availability at ANY DVC property. In fact, you can check availability 11 months out at your home resort and 7 months out at a non home resort. The info is located on the home page, right side, first selection. Good Luck!!!

I think you are going to have a very tough time finding anything at all that week. I know we booked that time seven months out and some of the villas were already booked. We weren't willing to move around for our stay.

Plus one bedroom villas usually are easier to get than two bedrooms or studios. A two bedroom with two queen beds in the second bedroom would have to be dedicated (except for some at BCV) or at OKW (both lock off or dedicated).

And you do know that no studio will ever connect to another studio, right?

:welcome: Unfortunately, I don't think you'll have much luck with either 2 studios or a 2 bedroom....not for the full time anyways. You might be able to piece it out, but that means you'll be packing up and changing rooms/resorts.

Right now there is no DVC where you could stay for all nights, at least without moving. As soon as your points are in your account you can book what is available and then you will have to hope that the wait list fairy helps you out. Good luck! Welcome Home and welcome to the DIS!

Thanks for the advice everyone, though not what I wanted to hear! Instead of booking at two different resorts would it be possible to book the remainder of the nights using cash through DVC? I believe there is a discount on the room?

This might be possible if there are cash rooms available through MS. I don't know if you would be guaranteed to stay in the same room though, even if you book all the same category. You would have different reservation numbers I think. But I am sure that the resort would work with you. It is in their best interest also to not have lots of moving.

The cash discount isn't always available. And I'm not really sure when the discount is available. Sometimes an AP discount might be better than a DVC discount, but you will have to check out and check in again - and maybe move to another villa.

If you decide to waitlist, I would choose SSR as they have the most units and therefore the most likely chance for a cancellation.

Thanks again everyone. We just got our points today and booked a 2 bedroom lockoff for 6 of the 8 nights and will be paying cash for the other 2 nights. Seems pretty good for such short notice.

That is great! Did you put in a wait list for those cash nights? We had to do that last year in October for a December trip and were surprised when the wait list came through for that night. So, there is always hope.

In addition, I would check the online system too as I have been able to get rooms this way a night at a time and just adjusted my wait list and reservation.

Welcome Home and congratulations on being able to book what you wanted! Just goes to show that you never know until you try. Did you try and waitlist for the 2 nights you are paying cash? Might be worth it if you haven't. Oh, and where were you able to book? Have a great time!

Congrats, OP! If you wait list and it doesn't come through then be sure to talk to the front desk staff to see if you can stay in your same room. Now the WAIT for your trip. October will seem like it is far away. Hope your first trip as DVC members is extra magical. :thumbsup2

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!! Glad you got 6 out of 8 nights - did you book SSR? I also think you should wait list the other two nights and if they come through, cancel the cash reservation.

Let us know how you make out!

Twice now I've booked all but one night of a stay on points, and booked the missing night on cash...and then waitlisted the missing night for points...both times the wait list came through (once at BWV in May; the other time at OKW in June)...the cash night canceled automatically and the refund to my credit card came through right away...so it's definitely worth W/L'ing your missing nights...it's pretty easy transitioning when it works out!

Good luck!
