I have a perscription for my first pair of eyeglasses and since they are worn pretty much everyday, I would like to get a great pair.

Could you suggest a brand? My small town optometrist had a very poor selection.

Can a person order eyeglasses online?

Just make sure your eye sits in the center of the lens. I see people wearing frames that don’t fit and makes their eyes look too close together or too far apart. Or they look like a child wearing adult glasses, or the opposite, an adult wearing child glasses.

the right fit on your face matters more than high end brand. You can spend as much money as you want, get the label that you like. But honestly, glasses wearers don’t care about style status. Buy what fits.

Alain Mikli are what I've been wearing since.....the mid 80's. Classic yet fashion forward. On average I wear the same pair for approx 10 years making the price reasonable. That's my rationale and I'm sticking to it, LOL.
They are sold online as well as at optometrists and stand alone shops.

Concerning online glasses, it depends. If you need progressive or bifocal lenses, online will not get you the right lens. The bifocal/progressive changes to the lens need to be placed correctly according to how the lens sits in relation to your eye.

but if you have a simple prescription, online glasses may be fine if you pick the right frame for your face as discussed in my previous post.

You can order online but you may want to try lots of different shapes and styles on first to find out what suits you. Also, my optician spends lots of time ‘fitting’ the glasses, when I collect them.
I find that glasses don’t last that long. They get dropped or sat on or scratched or misplaced etc. Also, fashions change.
Are you thinking of classic styles or eclectic? 🤓

Agreed to a certain extent. I don't care about the status but I do about the style. And fit is definitely important.
Been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old. A heads up: if your eyeglass arms become cloudy due to chemicals (perms, relaxers, etc) you can buff them with a Dremel or take them back to the place you bought them out who will do it for free.

I have a small face so I gravitate towards Coach or Ralph Lauren frames. They offer styles that fit me the best.
My Coach frames feel more substantial and a little better quality than my RL's.

I also have glasses from Zenni. They are wonderfully cheap, but you do get what you pay for. I keep them by my bed for reading at night. They are pretty flimsy and I wouldn't want them for every day use.
You do need to measure your PD for online glasses, so if you aren't familiar with how definitely look it up. Do not guess.

Hello! I have done that and saved money. I don’t know if everything is shut down? I went to different places like LensCrafters so I could see what I wanted. You really have to try some on! I have had Raybans and they have been really great quality. They are not thin and cheapo. But it is how they look on you that matters!

You have to be careful because places might not want to work with frames they didn’t sell. Or the brand might only want approved places to do theirs.

I want to put lenses in a pair of Oakley sunglasses and might not be able to. And I love that frame!

The best lenses that I have had that are so clear and scratch free came from Walmart! Just Walmart!

I’m not a fan of online. Nearly impossible to really know how they look or look on your face.

Honestly just get the ones you like. Don’t worry about trend or names. If you don’t like them, you’ll be less likely to want to wear them.

At 52, I started wearing glasses just a few years ago. I love anything by Oakely as I love all of their sunglasses too, I find they have a great selection of frames and are extremely well made. With that said, I switched to contacts last year and will never look back, lol.

I made the decision to switch back to glasses full time after 30 years of wearing contacts. I went with Nicole Miller frames and I love them. They are very comfortable and lightweight. I did spring for the really thin lenses, which makes a difference.

Thank you for all your suggestions.

I have a larger face/head and most of the glasses that I have tried on are too small. Yes, I agree my main priority is to find a pair that fits my face.

Any VETERANS or FIRST RESPONDERS should check out Oakley SI (Standard Issue). Great pricing on many Oakley styles, both prescription and non-. You have to prove your veteran or active first responder status to qualify.

I use Warby Parker. They are not high end but they are good quality and affordable. They have an app that allows you to "try on" their glasses and see how the style fits your face before you order them. The colors are not exact and are more true to what they look like on the listing page.

I actually needed new glasses and my prescription was about to expire, so I used this to replace my 4yo glasses that were getting stretched out (frames) and the lenses were starting to be in a weird state. I got them recently and they fit pretty well, better than my old ones, and look like I expected! Will eventually need a slight adjustment but they are fine for now. They do have an Extra Blind Fee of $100 for certain lenses but it is still a better price than LensCrafters and other outlets, and a great variety of styles and colors.

I don't wear glasses (except sunglasses), but my kids love Warby Parker.

I used to have a pair of MK glasses that were fully plastic frames. (I hate nose pieces.) This year I got a pair of Tiffany and Co. glasses. Plastic around the face but metal ear things. I love the Tiffany blue. <3

I don't recommend shopping online--they can't fit them properly to your face, even if you look good in them during the selection process.

What you CAN do is, get the written prescription from your eye doctor (they are required to give you this), and use that to shop elsewhere. It's also handy to bring with you when you travel, in case you lose or break your glasses while out of town.

Just another reason I like Oakely......:-)

If these are your first glasses, you can't really appreciate how important it is that they fit. Not just fit your face but that the lens vectors are in the correct place. Depending on the prescription, even a few millimeters can knock everything out of whack.

If you're reluctant to wear glasses due to vanity - I understand. :flower3: Don't let that drive you to ordering something on-line that isn't going to work for you. Get to a professional optical dispenser. It's really vital.
