Ok here is my problem. My husband and I leave for our trip around 4pm on Sept 21. That will put us in Disney around i believe between 8 and 9pm. We have no ADR's planned for this day becuase we don't want to rush as flying can be tiring and DH is coming stright from work. What should we do when me get to Disney? It is the first night of our biggest vacation ever and I have no idea what we should do. Any ideas??
Thanks!

After traveling all day and arriving that late, I would imagine you will be tired. Personally, I'd just enjoy settling in to the room and finding a place at the resort for dinner. You'll spend so much of your vacation away from the resort that it may be the only time you get to relax there!!

If it is just you and DH, you could go to Pleasure Island or the piano bar at the Boardwalk. You could also do DTD, or just relax at your resort pool. The Mod and deluxe resorts have a hot tub, if you are staying at one of those. Also, depending on how many park days you have, you could go to EMH at Epcot.

If we didn't get in until 8 or 9 at night, that evening we would take a walk around the resort or relax by the pool and have something to eat at the resort, this way we would be fresh to hit the parks the next morning.

I personally agree with AnninIowa. The resorts are beautiful! I'd stay and get settled in and have dinner at your resort or room service after checking out the grounds. By the time you get to the resort you really won't have time for much of anything if you to wake up refreshed to get in the parks early. I'd relax and smell the roses at your resort!

When we went down and arrived late, and we were too tired to go to the park, so we checked into to our hotel room, got settled in, grabbed some dinner, then went to DTD for the rest of the evening. We returned to our hotel room early so we were able to get a good night sleep, and that we could start off our next day fresh! Plus it gave us a chance to get all of our shopping finished for our friends and family, for the vacation! Happy Planning! :tinker:

We also always arrive late in the day. We go to DTD for dinner and a brief walk around. Than we go back to the room and unpack. We always eat at Capn Jacks. It is fun to do some shopping also. Enjoy

Depending on which resort you are staying at, for us, we stay in the MK loop WL, we pop over to FW by boat and have pizza and pitchers of beer at Crocketts Tavern, adjunct to Trails End which has a great buffet at a cheap price and in the evening the place is vacant. Guess most campers cook at there trailer sight but for us those places are a real treat. Breakfast buffets there are cheap and have good down home fixing without all the fluff. It is also a great place to stroll around, petting farm, horse stable, and Settlement Trading Post which is FW store and souvenior shop. We tehn boat back to CR for the game room, biggest on property and then back to our resort, WL, for a late night pool dip or hot tub.

Really its only good if you're in the MK resorts, other than that its a huge bus ride all over and not worth the trip.

Where are you staying?

With all that stress a good relaxing dip in a quiet pool would be really good at any of the resorts. If you are staying at one of the spa's maybe a couple's massage before a turndown service with a bottle of champagne by the bed. It's Disney and they could probably make it happen for you, and it is your "biggest vacation ever".

Last year I delt with the other extreme. Our flight left at 6:00 am and we went straight to Epcot when er got to Disney. We had been up since 3:30 am and were all cranky come 11 that night. My 3 year old was a trooper but was still exhausted. This year I realize and understand that I cant cram everything into the first day because it can make your second day roug. This year I plan to fly in around 3 pm and am heading over to downtown Disney for the evening then head back early for a quick dip in the pool and an early night.

If it were me in your situation I would just grab dinner at the hotel, possible take a swim and relax for the next day. We pushed ourselves to hard to experience everything last year and I regret not taking more time to relax.

I think it is called the River Roost and they have drinks, appetizers and music. You wouldn't even have to leave the resort to have a nice evening. I'm not sure where I read about this, but is was supposed to be a nice little spot to hang out.

POR is a great resort. we stayed in both the bayou and magnolia bend sections.
we almost always spend our first night at the resort. I f early enough, make adrs at boatwrights. otherwise, what we like to do: we bring a couple bottles of whiskey and vodka with. buy our mugs. mix up a couple drinks and "explore" the resort. stroll the grounds. you might not get a chance to do this during the week. walk hand in hand and discuss plans for the week and just THRILL to the fact that... "we're HERE!"
POR does have a horse and buggy(carriage) ride that takes you to french quarter and back. very relaxing way to see both resorts (you can bring your drink) and you don't have to walk. I'm not sure what time it goes until, but I do know you need to make reservations.
POR does have a boat ride to DTD/PI if you are night time people. but you will be tired and the next day you want to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!
depends on your taste.
In sept we had adrs for the hoop de doo revue our first night and, even though we arrived early, we found it hectic to have to settle in and then RUSH to go somewhere, when we had just arrived. I would just enjoy the resort.(but do check into the carriage ride, very relaxing and romantic)

We always just relax when we first get there. Unpack, get the "lay of the land"
so to speak. Check out the room, the resort, grounds, all it has to offer. One
of the other posters is right, you spend so little time at the resort and they
have so much to offer. They are mini-parks in themselves some of them!
Relax and take the time to enjoy everything. Don't rush around and wear your-
selves out. Have a blast! :thumbsup2

Same for us! We left around 4 am from our house, and nobody slept on the plane. We ended up going to MK around 3:00, and the kids were so tired they weren't even all that excited to finally see the castle (there went my dreams of oohs and ahs at their first sight of it, *sigh*). DD actually fell asleep in her stroller until we headed over to Chef Mickey's for dinner. Even DH and I were beat. So, instead of waking up nice and early on our first full day, everyone slept in and we got a later start than I had planned.

My point is, I guess, is to take it easy on your first day. In your case, I'd stroll around the resort (and I've been there - that's a GREAT resort for strolling!), grab dinner there, and be ready to hit the parks when you wake up!
