For our New Year's trip, we've decided to arrive a day earlier, but there is not availability in the room category we've reserved. For this one night, I can't decide whether to just stay at BWV for the night, then switch villas the next day; or, stay at OKW or SSR the first night, then move to the BW the next day. What do all of you think? Since it is going to be very busy, I'm thinking that it might be better to stay at the same resort (hopefully, by using the waitlist, we'll be able to stay in the same villa).

:earsboy:

One option that I did once was get a room at BW Inn. That way it was very easy to move in the morning. I was lucky enough to get an AP discount (early Dec). I always wanted to stay there, so it gave us a chance to check out their rooms. We had a reservation arriving Saturday but couldn't get frequent flyer tickets for that day but could get them for Friday. I didn't waitlist because I didn't want to spend weekend points.

I would try something new. :)

We usually stay somewhere else the first night we arrive anyway cause it is usually early evening when we get there.

For the first night I like to try out something different. Last December, I spent the first night at BWV before switching to BCV for the balance of the trip. Gave me an opportunity to try it... so.... January 2, DS and I check in to BWV for the week. However, for the one night before we check in there, we're probably going to try out SSR for a night.

we norm try a new resort the 1st night of every trip (avoiding the saturday mega-points)
this year is AKL (deluxe savannah), before was GF "turret" room, YC concierge, poly, etc....................
the "try a new resort" night is one of our fav parts of every vacation!

As long as you have to move but can stay within the WDW on-grounds hotel system, it really doesn't matter which resort you move to or from. I'd suggest you make your choice based on what appeals to you, and let the system take care of moving your luggage from one resort to another.

We're going to try a SSR studio before checking into BWV for our Holiday vacation.
